ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- First Caribbean International Bank (CIBC) has announced a whopping new fundraising target of $100,000 for the BVI Cancer Society.

The bank in the Virgin Islands has been a continuous partner in the Society's efforts to assist and support cancer patients and their families across the territory.

Since 2012, the bank has organised the Walk for the Cure Caribbean campaign, which raised an initial total of $1,250 in its first year.

Richard Phillips, Acting Country Manager of CIBC, stated that by 2019, the initiative had been strengthened through a partnership with the BVI Cancer Society and had seen a “significant leap.”

“Even through the challenges of the pandemic, the commitment of the community never wavered. In the years that followed, it continued to build momentum, surpassing $50,000 in 2022, climbing to 60,000 in 2023, and reaching a record 67,000 in 2024,” he noted.

Campaign reached target of 75k

Phillips added that the initiative has now reached another milestone, with the committee meeting its targeted goal of $75,000 in 2025.

“Today, I'm especially proud to share that together, we have achieved another major milestone. Three years ago, the walk for the cure committee set an ambitious target of $75,000 and I'm delighted to confirm that in 2025, we have met that goal.”

The acting manager acknowledged the BVI Cancer Society's efforts in raising these funds, stating that this achievement represents more than just numbers.

“This achievement is not just about the figure. It represents lives touched, family supported, and critical resources made available for diagnosis, treatment, and therapy. It is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together with purpose.”

New 100K target set

The CIBC has now set a new target of 100,000 for 2026. Phillip stated, “Of course, milestones are not endpoints. They're stepping stones and, so, as we celebrate this success, we also look ahead. Our target for 2026 is even more ambitious: $100,000.”

He added, “With the momentum we have built, and the continued support of this incredible community, I'm confident that this goal is well within reach.”
