Chlorine, fluoride in water cause cancer – Dr Howard A. Berg

Dr. Howard A. Berg has warned of the cancer risks associated with chlorine and fluoride used to purify water and found in other places. He was a guest of the talk show 'Straight Talk' hosted last evening June 4, 2014 on ZBVI 780 AM by Mr Donald E. De Castro. Photo: islandchiro.net
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A medical practitioner believes that the chlorine and fluoride used to purify water can cause cancer and other illnesses and cautions against continuing to be exposed to these harmful chemicals.

Dr. Howard A. Berg of Island Chiropractic and Wellness Centre on Tortola made the statements last evening June 4, 2014 during the radio talk show ‘Straight Talk’, hosted by Mr Donald E. De Castro and aired on ZBVI 780 AM.

“Unfortunately in this day and age we live in a very toxic environment,” said Burke. “We have toxic cleaners that we use in our house…we have toxic sprays that we use in our hair. We have toxic chemicals that we put in our house. There are chemicals that come out of cars and trucks on the highway,” he said.

“There is stuff that is dumped in our water…over-the-counter drugs, recreational drugs, doctor prescribed drugs, cigarette smoke, alcohol, the water…if you look at all these things, we use them on a daily basis and we wonder why we get sick, we wonder why we have these cancers,” he said.

He said that fluoride is a heavy metal and toxic to the body. “We grew up with fluoride in the water and we are learning now that it probably wasn’t the best thing. A lot of the States (in the US) and a lot of the cities are getting away from the fluoridated water,” Dr. Berg said.

“We are learning that fluoride is a cancer causer. We are learning that it causes soft teeth, we’re learning that it causes delayed growth in brain cells in children,” he said.

He said that nations fighting wars use cluster bombs with chlorine to kill people, “and we use it in our swimming pools.”

Dr. Berg noted that even in small doses those chemicals are still deadly.

When this news site today June 5, 2014 sought to find out what chemicals are used in the water purification process in the Territory, Director of Water and Sewerage Department Perline Scatliffe-Leonard directed this news site to the Chief Environmental Officer in the Environmental Health Division, Carnel Smith, who was up to post time unavailable for comment.

Fluoride was also used in World War 1 as a chemical weapon.

see www.fluoridealert.com and listen to PHD scientists talk about their findings. It is not medical qualifications, it's research ability, common sense and passion for the truth away from indoctrinated mouthpieces.

THANK YOU DR. BERG for speaking truth to power!!

Chlorine and Fluoride are two separate chemicals-one is for public health to deal with bacteria but the other is supposedly to address tooth decay. When boiled, Chlorine evaporates while Fluoride concentrates. Therefore you are getting much more than the "recommended dose" of F which has ill side effects.

Fluoride is NOT necessary for good teeth and definitely not meant for an entire population to ingest for the rest of their lives whether they need it or not. It is not a nutrient or vitamin needed for the body to function. And there is no way to control the dose. How much water, beer, soup, juice do you drink on a hot day? It's in the food chain, air pollution, even rat poison as a basic ingredient.

Have you ever wondered about the warning on tooth paste packages "if swallowed, seek medical attention or call poison control immediately"? It is linked to gastro-intestinal and immune deficiencies, arthritis, osteoporosis, kidney issues (people on dialysis machines can NOT use Fluoridated water because it is toxic.) New Hampshire has on their water bills a warning NOT to mix baby formula with fluoridated water because of over exposure. Babies are exposed to 3-4 times as much fluoride as an adult leading to health issues. And too much causes fluorosis or brown spots and break down of enamel on teeth.

Processed foods, sugar, poverty, dental hygiene, nutrition are big factors in dental decay. The most Fluoridated state in the US (with 40 yrs experience) is Kentucky yet it has 41% teeth loss, where Hawaii is the least fluoridated and has 16% teeth loss. We no longer tolerate the ill effects of asbestos, mercury, lead poisoning, cumulative effects of second-hand smoke, or pesticides yet we allow big business and lobbyists to push through Fluoride which is from fertilizer and aluminum factories in China.

Fluoride is not a one pill fits all medicine. Any vulnerable population (children, ill and elderly) are forced to take it in the water. Fairbanks, Alaska, Portland Oregon, Topeka and Wichita Kansas, 200 towns in US and Israel among almost all Europe have all discontinued the use because it is a waste of tax payers money as it washes cars and goes down the drain, and contributes to many illnesses including thyroid. What a trade off. Just brush your teeth, change your nutrition and get check ups!!

what does that have to do with it? the other towns and countries including Sweden have also rejected it. Look at the balance of the whole, Einstein! you obviously have nothing of quality to contribute other than dredging up a political idiot.

I've been saying this for years now, especially since the chlorine in our water is so high, it's nauseating. I even asked the previous director of water and sewage about it and he assured me that it was safe. His assurance fell on deaf ears. No doubt, I guarantee you, the amount of chlorine that we put to treat our waters are much higher than the standard treatment amount.

There is non-fluoride toothpaste at nature's way. Brand is Tom's. I am sick of this water bottled water but I don't know what is safer or healthier. You can taste all the minerals in it.

Cistern water is good. It comes from the sky. Have the gutters clean and install an UV filter system. Distilled water is also good. You can get a distiller machine or buy it by the gallon. Distilling or filtering your water is much better than generating unwanted garbage from bottled water and in the end is cheaper.

By the way, fluorine is not a heavy metal, it is a halogen gas in the same group with chlorine. These gases form the ions fluoride and chloride respectively. Chlorine doesn't last very long in water; it evaporates into the atmosphere, or reacts with materials such as bacteria and other compounds in the water. When the tap opens quite a bit of the chlorine leaves the water. What may be worst than the chlorine in the water are the heavy metals from the polluted seawater around the BVI that we use to extract our fresh water supply. Lead, mercury, copper, arsenic, cadmium and others are present in the waters around our shores; the same water utilized by the RO water plants in operation. While chlorine kills microbes, I am not convinced that the water is free of toxic heavy metals. Those are some of the main causes of illnesses like cancer and even death.

The National Research Council (NRC), part of the National Academies, issued a report titled “Health Effects of Ingested Fluoride” in 1993. Its conclusion was that “the available laboratory data are insufficient to demonstrate a carcinogenic effect of fluoride in animals.” They also concluded that “the weight of the evidence from the epidemiological [population-based] studies completed to date does not support the hypothesis of an association between fluoride exposure and increased cancer risk in humans.” The report recommended that additional well-designed studies be done to look at the possible link to cancers, especially osteosarcomas.

It might be worth looking at other pollutants like the burning of plastics at the dump. However, people are sensitive to substances far beyond predictability. It's like smoking. Some will get cancer some won't, but it is all cumulative. Just because one smoker doesn't get cancer doesn't mean someone else won't. statistics show evidence of affect in ingesting any chemical long enough. It's a bad thing that can't be controlled.

There are still no well-designed studies done because they are not being funded because of pressure from big pharma. you quote 1993. I will quote 2006 New York Times where the National Academy of Sciences stated that federal regulators should reduce the level that is considered safe for human consumption. "our committee concluded unanimously that E.P.A. should lower the maximum contaminant level goal for fluoride and concluded that water fluoride concentrations at or near the current standard caused adverse health effects".
March 2012- NYT- Fluoride can cause bone weakness and tooth damage if ingested ..."
In 2006, at the E.P.A.'s request, experts were appointed by the National Research Council concluded that "the four-milligram maximum be lowered to prevent tooth enamel damage in children and bone fractures in adults".
the National Research Council recommended the cessation (stop) of fluoridation nationwide until research could be implemented to clarify the health effects on the human body". Finally, "although the studies were generally of insufficient quality, the consistency of their findings adds support to existing evidence of fluoride-associated cognitive deficits, and suggests that potential developmental neurotoxicity of fluoride should be a high research priority". To date, well-designed studies are put on the back burner, unfunded and fought by big business who make millions by dumping F in health products and water.

In the old days we did not use fluoride in our drinking water. We use to drink the water out of the cisterns and drums before outsiders convinced us that it was not good for consumption. Our great and grand parents were drinking water out of drums from their roof tops for years and they lived a long full life.

and they probably just boiled it at some point. Also probably kept the immune system sharp. Does anyone know if (what city water there is) is fluoridated? It is a waste of money.

The BVI doesn't use fluorin in its water; we use chlorine to kill bacteria and other harmful micro-organisms.

did you know that curacao's small population is fluoridated even though the Netherlands quit using it years ago? Just because they got independence doesn't mean you can't take any clues as a colony. It doesn't make sense other than everyone trying to look "progressive" without the knowledge or research.

Seawater also contains chlorine....more seriously, the issue is a balance of risks. Not chlorinating drinking water increases the potential risk of pathogen mediated illnesses (cholera, typhoid etc) which in the past have caused very high mortality. On the other hand chlorinating drinking water creates very low levels of chloromethanes that have been found to be carcinogenic albeit in high doses, thousands of times greater than we could get in a lifetime of drinking such water. Is there a risk associated with these substances? The answer is yes. But is that risk significant if it is estimated to be 1 in 100,000? That's a policy and societal decision.

      thank you for your comment:
chlorine is for the greater good (and evaporates). Fluoride is for the targeted few under that age of 12 with developing teeth while the rest of the population gets it imposed regardless of the research. There are other ways of focusing on tooth decay than mass-medication. That is the distinction.

Despite all your comments Fluoride or even Clorax are used to purify water in order to prevent bacteria from entering our bodies. What i need from this doctor is an alternitave chemical to be used. Over 100 years Fluoride has been used in water. The question is why now? I just dont understand these researchers at all.

I'm glad to see an article like this.. I have been trying to wake people up to certain facts for years but... Many refuse to take the red pill.. Anyways "They" have been systematically poisoning the human race for years through the food supply, shortening our life span (Population Control)(look it up) and limiting human potential. Everything we eat from meats to vegs are all genetically modified. "They" in a sense are altering our very dna. When you look at mainstream media these days you see all these shootings and such and in most cases you find out there was a history of mental health.. This is no accident.. I'm begging all of you to please wake up, there is a war brewing and "They" already have the advantage.. Please wake up, THE MATRIX HAS YOU!! ... "One mans conspiracy, is another mans truth"
