CGB resident pleads guilty to punching man in eye
Dimitri Maduro, who appeared before Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens this morning May 5, 2012, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging property. As for the third offence of threatening language he pled not guilty, and in light of this the Crown offered no evidence.
Crown Counsel Herbert Potter in outlining the facts of the case told the court that Maduro allegedly hit the VC on the morning of April 7, 2012 while they were on the dock of Delta Petroleum Marine Depot in Baughers Bay.
According to the VC’s recollection, the altercation occurred around 9:56 a.m. While the VC was operating the fuel pump, the Captain of the vessel Maduro was on wanted to be served, however, the VC claimed he told the Captain other vessels were there before his.
It was then Maduro, who was a first mate, got out of the vessel and an altercation ensued. The VC allegedly shoved Maduro, Potter told the court, who momentarily went back on the boat only for the defendant to jump back on the dock and hit the VC in his right eye. He was wearing a $50 sunglasses that was broken as a result of the punch.
And while leaving on the boat, Maduro allegedly told the VC that he was going to come back around 1 o’clock and shoot him.
But the unrepresented father of one informed Senior Magistrate Stephens that he was provoked by the VC, adding that after the VC had shoved him once he did again, which made him lose his temper.
Maduro also noted that his girlfriend was at the dock and saw what happened.Until he is sentenced, the CGB resident is on $7,000 Police bail.
