Celebrity hair stylist Philip K. Bernier ready to give back to VI
Having recently returned to the Territory some five months ago, Bernier, a Belonger, was contracted to be a guest artist at the recently staged Style BVI Hair and Beauty Expo.
He will be working out of Diva’s Salon (located near One Mart) where he will be hosting a ‘Beauty and Style Expert Academy’ as a qualified hair designer, makeup artist, and licensed cosmetology instructor. Bernier will also have a consistent clientele that will be served through the salon as well.
“I’ve been creative my whole life,” Phillip said when asked how long he had been in the business. He has been doing hair and makeup for twelve years, working for L’Oreal, Giorgio Armani Beauty, Laura Mercier, Aveda, M.A.C., Bobbi Brown and Elizabeth Arden among others.
“Now it’s time to come back and really teach and educate,” he said, “that’s really what I’m into right now.” Registration has already begun for the classes and interested persons are asked to contact Diva’s salon to be enlisted.
Speaking on his methods, Phillip said he believes firmly in creativity and artistic expression, “We all are creative… we can definitely be creative and use our creativity to exceed limitations.”
His creative energy was clearly in full flow as he wowed fans during a live demonstration on stage at the Style BVI Hair and Beauty Expo this past Sunday [December 8, 2013] at Paragon in Fish Bay. It is expertise such as this that has made Bernier such an influential and much sought after artist on the international scene.
He has spent close to a decade working in Virginia and has racked up significant notoriety utilising his skills in hair design and makeup artistry. Bernier has also worked extensively in film, television, and theatrical productions, as well as music videos, magazines, and educational seminars.
Phillip was personally trained by Nick Arrojo of TLC’s What Not To Wear, one of the top hair stylists and educators in the world, and he has had close to two thousand hours of one on one training. He also worked as a Professor at Virginia College for some time.
“It’s all about creating the ultimate experience,” Phillip said. He explained that the Virgin Islands is one of the top destinations for tourism and for weddings in particular.
He expressed that coming back and tutoring future professionals about how to take care of those needs was one of the foremost things on his mind. “My brand is equipping, empowering and inspiring with different tools,” Phillp said.
After travelling around the world for years and learning the different techniques he has acquired, he has now decided to come back to teach and to empower and to encourage others on making a living while being creative at the same time.
