Celebration of Life: Honoring Mr. John Julio Daniel Samuel
On Saturday, 25 July 2026, we gather at Jesus Christ Heaven's Gate Church in Purcell Estate to honor John's memory, to laugh about the good times, and to give thanks for the years we were blessed to have him among us.
Finding Home in the BVI
John was so much more than a name—he was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. Born in the Dominican Republic, he made his way to the BVI between the late 1980s and early 1990s, and it didn't take long for these islands to become his home. For many years, you may have known him from behind the bar or across the dining room at Prospect Reef, Peter Island, or Maria's By the Sea. He had that rare gift of making everyone feel welcome—whether you were a first-time visitor or a regular face. A warm smile, a perfectly mixed drink, a kind word when you needed it most—that was John. His love, kindness, strength, and laughter touched countless lives, and the memories he created around those tables remain alive in all of us.
It was also right here in the BVI that John gave his life to Jesus Christ—a moment that would shape everything that followed.
A Journey of Courage and Faith
Life threw its challenges at John, as it does to all of us. After the devastation of Hurricane Irma and his cancer diagnosis, he made one of the hardest decisions of his life: to leave the islands he loved and move to the United Kingdom. But he didn't do it for himself. He did it for his family—to give them better opportunities, and to explore every possible treatment that might give him more time with them. It was a sacrifice only a father and husband could understand, and it gave him precious additional years with the people who mattered most.
In the UK, John's health improved for a time, and he continued being the devoted man we all knew. It was there, too, that his faith deepened even further—the seed planted in the BVI growing stronger with every passing season. On 23 April 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones, John passed away peacefully.
He was laid to rest in the UK, but his heart? His heart never left the BVI. Through phone calls, messages, and the family and friends who remained here, he kept his connection to these islands alive until the very end.
Why We Gather
That is exactly why we are celebrating this memorial. John built his life here. He found his faith here. He was loved here. And now, we gather to bring him home in spirit—not to say goodbye again, but to celebrate who he was and what he meant to us.
He lived with love. He left with peace. He will forever be remembered.
John walked through life with grace, guided by the faith he first found in the BVI and deepened across the ocean. He lived out the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Come as you are. Come with a story, a smile, or simply your presence. Whether you knew John from his days behind the bar, from worshipping alongside him, or from hearing about him through friends, you are welcome here. Your presence is a blessing to our family, and together, let us celebrate a life well-lived.
He may have left these shores, but he never left our hearts. Let's welcome him home one more time.
