ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Word reaching our newsroom is that former Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Cedorene Patricia Malone-Smith is back at the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA); however, the Human Resources Manager Mr Levor A. H. Lettsome is not.

According to our sources at the BVIHSA, Malone-Smith has; however, not returned to the role of Acting CEO.

That post is currently being held by Dr June M. Samuel.

It is not clear what post Mrs Malone-Smith is holding at the moment and when exactly she returned to work at BVIHSA.

Unconfirmed reports are that Mr Lettsome was also offered a different post but refused.

It is also our understanding that Mr Lettsome's employment has since been terminated.

Duo was sent home on non-disciplinary leave

Mrs Malone-Smith and Mr Lettsome were both sent home on non-disciplinary leave in December 2021 following allegations of “fraud and gross misconduct” at BVISHA.

A forensic audit was also ordered; however, it is unclear what the findings were.

Mum’s the word?

Both Malone-Smith and Lettsome did not respond to our request for a comment and our newsroom was told by BHIVSA Marketing and Communications Manager at BVISA Mr Damion C. Grange on Friday, August 12, 2022, that Dr Samuel was “travelling” and that he was awaiting a response from her regarding our queries.

Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) also did not respond to our request for comment on the matter.

You see that! And she was part of the Issues Healthworkers were dealing with and now he returning her. Who all came to the decision of bringing her back. They don't care about the wellbeing of Staff much less Patients.

This woman should be under investigation for her alleged recent actions that led to her suspension from BVIHSA.But here it is that she is back on the job without any sort of disciplinary measures against her. It really goes to show how powerful your last name is. If it was someone else they would have been arrested and the rest would be history. Lord help us in this country! The staff need to demonstrate.

I strongly agree with your comment. The Staff need to call. out sick ( White Flu) refuse to work under the directions of that woman. The Minister or Medical Director cannot threaten their Jobs because they all ready understaffed and over working Staff. If they threatened to bring in Staff from Overseas, we would have to defend Our Rights.

If these two people were sent home and accused of being involved in fraud and gross misconduct as they say, then why would you even attempt to bring them back? Something here is not making sense, because these are serious allegations. When you look at this story there is something just not adding up to me. Because if I send someone home from my company for fraud and gross misconduct, I would not be trying to offer them any other position or even attempting to bring them back. It seems like the real fraud is coming from inside the BVIHSA and they are trying to cover it up. Also based on what I am reading people are making real serious assumptions without having the facts. I am sure we will hear more about this story as time goes by. I will wait and see how this one plays out.

I fully agree with you serious stuff going on in BVIHSA, alot of thieving esp from staff and all of it starts. At Human Resources, The present HR manager dont no anything, she is like a none skull ,alot of errors starts from there, i would not recommend any healthcare personel to this BVIHSA a deadly. Place to work

Mr. Lettesome spoke out on tola radio about what happened. He said Alturo Fahie didn’t wanted him there and made something up to get him to leave hence the why the findings of the audit is unclear.

Hospital has a middle management crisis or ineffectiveness, staff coming to work late, calling in sick at anytime, impolite, walking around withAirphones in their Ears on duty...These are the things middle management are paid to address, avoid and fix...Make the place frofessional and efficient .They can do that because the workers are qualified, they are just indisciine and like their own way..

The things you’ll should be fighting against you’ll endorse and support. The people of tortola will NEVER be happy or pleased. You’ll disgust the rest of the BVI.

The health sector is probably not finished with their audit as yet. As it pertains to Mr. Lettsome so let's wait and see the outcome.
THE COI is a good and a bad for the territory. Pull up our docks and tighten our belts. Brace our selves for what is happening and what is to come. Let's hope it's the positive
