ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) has paid tribute to its fallen former president and former Territorial At-Large Representative Hon Carvin Malone, who passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the age of 64.

Noting it is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that the party announces the passing of Mr Malone, the VIP in a press release on Sunday said Mr Malone served as the President of the Virgin Islands Party from 1999 to 2016, “leaving an indelible mark on our political landscape.”

The Party said Mr Malone’s commitment extended beyond his presidency.

“After his success at the polls in 2019, he assumed the role of Minister for Health and Social Development from 2019 to 2022, tirelessly working for the betterment of these Virgin Islands.”

‘Irreplicable void’ left

Dr the Hon Wheatley, the Premier and Minister of Finance of the Virgin Islands, acknowledged Mr Malone's significant contributions to the [British] Virgin Islands and urged the community to keep the entire family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Premier Wheatley also emphasised the “irreplaceable void” left by Mr Malone's departure, noting that his legacy will forever be etched in the history of these Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands Party.

President of the VIP, Ms Sharia B. de Castro, also paid tribute to the late Carvin Malone, describing him as the voice and a steadfast champion of the Virgin Islands Party.

The Party said de Castro echoed Chairman Wheatley's genuine words of condolences, and asked the people of the Virgin Islands to continue lifting up Mr Malone's family in prayer as they navigate through the challenges brought by this great loss.

VIP ‘remains resolute & united’

“In the wake of this shocking news, the Virgin Islands Party remains resolute and united.

He saved so many by making sure the government enforced the rules to be out in public during COVID-19. Rest now brother, besides COVID-19, you have done a lot for the people through the years. None of us know when we will die so live each day as though it is your last. RIP Mr. Malone.

RIP Mr Malone. I’ve always admire you as a Champion , fighting for the rights of the BVI people and educating the people on topical issues. I know some mocked you during the trying pandemic times with your popular statement ‘’ We are not out of the woods yet’’ . But You Sir are now out of the woods , in a place of rest where there’s no more sorrow, no more weeping and no more pain. Eternal Rest Granted onto you. Condolences to the immediate families, extended families, The VIP and the people of the British Virgin Islands.

As an expat without the same local knowledge, I’ll always remember Mr Malone for his leadership during the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic. He came across very well. He seemed to have reassuringly sound judgment, and to care. My sincere sympathies go to his family. My prayer is that our Lord will lead his soul to heaven.
