'Carrot Bay is a very special place where culture lives & thrives'- Premier Wheatley

His remarks were made during the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta/Village Opening Ceremony on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The Premier stated, “Carrot Bay is a very special place where culture lives and thrives. This is why the whole Virgin Islands eagerly anticipates Thursdays, so we can all descend on this village to witness the vibrancy of culture—food, music, dance, clothing, and everything else we can think of.”
He added, “The culture we have in Carrot Bay is one of the best things we can share with both visitors and residents. It is something we should never take for granted. We must ensure that we preserve it, never be ashamed of it, and showcase it at every opportunity.”
'Passing the torch'
Dr Wheatley also highlighted the importance of passing the torch, expressing gratitude for those who have contributed significantly to the celebrations and the strength of the culture. “I want to salute those stalwarts who have played a role not only in these celebrations but in ensuring our culture remains strong and vibrant.”
He commended the next generation by saying, “Despite all the distractions we face today—social media, the internet, television—it is easy to overlook our culture, but you in Carrot Bay have made a firm commitment, demonstrated through the passing of the torch and the lighting of the torch, that we will ensure our culture remains strong and vibrant. That is truly commendable.”
The Premier further stated, “We should continue this through Carrot Bay Cultural Thursdays, enhancing our tourism offerings. The village of Carrot Bay will become increasingly important as we develop our tourism product. We want all visitors arriving from the cruise ship pier to experience your vibrant culture and to have activities not just in the evening, but throughout the day. I know you already have activities in place, but this is something we want you to build upon.”
During the ceremony, the committee honoured Mr Antonio T. Martin for his years of dedication and commitment to the fishing industry in the territory and the preservation of Virgin Islands culture.
