CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- This month’s Cultural Thursday in Carrot Bay, scheduled for March 19, 2026, will feature activities honouring the late Hamilton Lavity Stoutt, the Territory’s first Chief Minister and former First District Representative.

The evening will include a special screening of Janice A. Stoutt’s acclaimed film, “Country Man Comes to Town: Keep the Vision Moving,” which highlights aspects of Stoutt’s impact on development in the Virgin Islands.

Following the film, there will be a customised version of the game show Jeopardy, featuring questions related to Mr Stoutt. Teams from local statutory organisations, including the BVI Tourist Board, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, and the BVI Electricity Corporation, will participate in this fun and informative activity.

Stoutt’s former Permanent Secretary, Territorial At Large Representative and Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Honourable Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL), will contribute $500 to a charity selected by the winning team.

Schedule of activities

The afternoon’s activities will begin at 3:00 PM with another edition of the revived Farmers and Fishers Market, where fresh fish and farm produce will be available for purchase.

Cultural games will start at 5:00 PM, led by DJ Shadow D, who will also provide musical entertainment.

The film screening will begin at 6:30 PM, followed by Jeopardy at 7:30 p.m.

Cultural Thursday Committee Chairperson Monica Howson commented, “March Cultural Thursday is always especially meaningful, because we link it to Mr Stoutt, the district’s favourite son. I believe the activities will be both enjoyable and educational, helping to teach new residents and the next generation and remind us all of his contributions. I encourage both children and adults to attend.”
