CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- Carrot Bay's Cultural Thursday event is back this week on Thursday, November 16, 2023, and it has a new feature that promises to be exciting - storytelling around a bonfire.

The event, which begins at 3:00 PM, will feature cultural icons such as Elmore Stoutt OBE, Janice A. Stoutt, and Velma Chung.

According to the Organising Committee President, Ms Monica Howson, the storytelling experience was initially planned for October 19 in honour of the Heroes and Foreparents Day holiday; however, due to bad weather, it was cancelled.

Despite this setback, they decided to stick with the storytelling theme for this week's event, presenting a broader range of experiences in keeping with the theme.

VI culture through ‘spoken word’

The event, according to a press release from First District Representative Dr the Honourable Karl Dawson on November 15, 2023, will showcase the Virgin Islands' culture through spoken word, featuring a mix of factual and fictional accounts of life and events in the territory.

Traditional narrative, poetry, and song will be used to tell these stories. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their own stories during the open mic session.

‘Sappy’ & Dr the Hon Dawson to also present

In addition to the headliners, Ulric Pilgrim aka ‘Sappy’ and Dr the Honourable Karl Dawson will also present.

The event will also feature extempore calypso performances where performers create songs on the spot.

According to BVITB, while the event officially starts at 3:00 PM, some vendors will be selling items before noon.

Visitors can also enjoy a pot-bread-making demonstration by Mrs Velma Chung at 4:00 pm.

The bonfire storytelling will begin at 6:15 pm on the Festival Village Grounds.

Is the Bonfire Story telling at the Festival Village grounds in Road Town? Or is there also a Festival Village grounds in Carrot Bay?
