CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- The 2026 Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta, which is being held as part of the 72nd Virgin Islands Emancipation Celebrations, will continue despite the shooting incident that injured at least two people yesterday, August 6, 2026.

The Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Committee, in a statement this morning, August 7, 2026, extends "sincere thoughts and prayers" to everyone affected by the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, and also condemned the act of violence.

"Violence has no place in our community or at any event that is intended to bring people together in celebration. Our festival was founded on the principles of culture, unity, family, and community, and we remain committed to promoting peace and togetherness."

According to the Chairperson of the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Committee, Natasha Harrigan, the safety and well-being of its patrons, vendors, volunteers, performers, and everyone attending its events remain the highest priority, and "that is why we thought it was best to cancel the event yesterday evening in light of what occurred."

Cultural Fiesta to continue

However, the fiesta, which is one of the most anticipated events of the Emancipation Festival, will continue today until Saturday, as planned, but with a stronger police presence.

"After careful consultation with the relevant authorities, we wish to advise the public that the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta activities scheduled for Friday, 7th August 2026, will proceed as planned, with increased police presence."

The Committee thanked the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and the public for their continued support and cooperation.

"We look forward to welcoming you as we continue celebrating our heritage, culture, and community safely and responsibly," Harrigan stated.

Today is themed 'Culture Connect', and will include donkey races, cultural relay, and a number of novelty games, including tug-of-war. Activities start from 3:00 PM.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 7, 2026, is themed 'Aquatic Vybez' and will begin at 2:00 PM.

Donkeys are versatile animals used globally as pack and draft animals for transport and farming, as livestock guardians against predators like coyotes, and as therapy or companion animals.

Sponge Bob square pants really got a on fb to defend killa from he grave lol

To me anybody who brings and facilitates gun into the bvi id deemed a killer in my eyes. They bring in guns and sell them to dum hot idiot's who drop out of school....like giving a toddler a kitchen knife to Play with. Like giving a child the nuclear launch button. Smh . Most times they guns to mental unstable people, cold blooded murders and hot heads who shoot first and think after clowns.

Just because he did targeting killings don't make him any more of an angel . Never forget trinity. Misunderstanding or not . No guns should of been brought in and used for indifferences

We only reaping what we sow cuz now is the next generation of young kids who trigger happy and got "good parenting" from mommy (single mother/party woman) and daddy(criminal/jobless bum on the block) and ofc our infamous anti police culture and songs!!

Carrot Bay emancipation celebrations do have a measure of pleasurous activities, but when a peoplle as we are divided against each others both spiritual and physical even in time of meaningful histiric cultural celebrations manifestations of violent altercations will happen
Humans diversities are numerous, only with high sprinciples practice in the present of children by adults parent in family homes, same following up by teachers at public and church leaders will be able to,, if accepted and practice, positively reduce the negative impact that elegal drugs, voilent gun crimes that's have dramatically spiked negatively the British Virgin Islands. The way in which emancipation festivities have,,and is largely being celebrated in the British Virgin Islands is not the true way. There is no way that true freedom from slavery free us to behave negatively and to do what we want, but rather what will strengthen our relationship to each other in unfeign love for God and our neighbors.

We all should agree to work in unity with our RVIPF to help curb the rising impact of violent gun crimes in the British Virgin Islands. Know this fact that parents are been charged by God to train up their children in the way peace, not war, love, not hatred against God and their neighbors, genuine accountability, not discountibility, honesty, not dishonesty, until helpful actions forcthe good of all of the people of the British Virgin Islands,,visitors and other tha livig among are equally respectedgun and other voilent crimes will continue spiking from time in the British Virgin Islands. God our Creator has set for us to chose good, not evil, life death. The power choice if personal, true freedom, not free to do as we please.
