Carr wins Ceres 10K opener
Twenty runners and walkers started the race which began and finished on the Mondo Track at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.
Carr covered the 6.2 mile course that went from the track, up to Port Purcell Roundabout, down to the Prospect Reef Roundabout with a loop through Lower Estate and returning to the track in 41 minutes and 38 seconds.
Early leader Asson finished second in 41:49 followed by Zebalon McLean in 43:52.Katina Crumpler won the women’s division in a time of 50:04 to finish 38 seconds ahead of Sara Hayes with Claire Louise-Whiley rounding out the top three women in 51:48.
In the 5k distance, the three Chalwell boys demonstrated their prowess over the distance with 12 year old Kai edging out Luka over the final stretch.
Gerard Rose led the power walkers to finish in 1 hour and 22. “Power walking is a great way for seniors to stay fit,” said the 67-year old retired educator. “I hope to see more of them out participating in the sport."
The next race in the Ceres 10k will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 6.30 a.m starting at Long Bay Beach car park, Beef Island.
