ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Eligible athletes will have a last chance to qualify for Carifta 53 later today, Saturday, March 14, 2026, during the Dag Samuels Development Meet #5.

Scheduled to take place from 2:00 PM at the A.O Shirley Recreation Ground in Tortola. 

“The Carifta Warm Up is the last chance for athletes to run their best race in a bid to make the BVI Carifta Team,” the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA) said in an announcement. 

The BVIAA added that it is expected that the best, fasted and those with grit will fight their way to the finish line. 

Events 

Athletes will compete in various age categories from Under 13 to Under 20 in the high jump, 100M hurdles, 110M hurdles, 400M, 300M, 60M, 80M, Discus, 100M, 800M, 120M, 150M, 200M, Shot Put, 4X100M. 

Team VI for Carifta 53 currently comprises Ty’Rique Charles (100M and 200M), J'Den Jackson (100M and 200M), Mario Carter (400M), M'Kenzii Crabbe (200M) and T’Keiya Smith (high jump). 

Carifta 53 will be hosted at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada from April 4 to 6, 2026. This year’s games will be held under the theme ‘Passion Drives Performance’. 

The annual games showcase top under-18 and under-20 athletes from across the Caribbean.
