ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada - Four athletes representing the Virgin Islands (VI) made it to the finals on the first day of the 53rd Carifta Games on Saturday, April 4, 2026; however, the athletes fell short of medalling.

This is the second consecutive year Team VI has had three sprint finalists in three different divisions at the Carifta Games.

McKenzii Crabbe placed 7th in the Girls U-17 100 meters finals with a time of 12.15 seconds.

“The finals wasn’t the best, just like last year, I came out of the semis, I ran a fast time, I ran slower in the finals,” she said to Dean ‘The Sportsman’ Greenaway, following her race.

Coaches, we see your hardwork paying off. The athletes have been working hard. It seems the athletes are not performing on the big stage matching their personal times, although if I'm wrong I can be corrected. This means that while you have the Hon. Minister in the bleachers, bend her ear about some of her Ministry's travel money to take our athletes a few times a year to participate in overseas track meets. It can only assist them to grow mentally as well as advance in their various class of races. It could be right there in the caribbean. Seek invites to caribbean meets. They seem to have the right recipe. Let's get together and excel. Also to participate to as far afield as Florida. Let's have some fundraisers as well and have businesses assist. They will help. We will bake some cakes, well maybe not cakes. We will make some healthy drinks for sale. LET'S GO!!!! I love my athletes. Congratulations to each and everyone of you. YOU ROCK!!!! Coaches, let's build us some athletes that will perform like tigers and tigresses on world stage.
