GREAT HARBOUR, Jost Van Dyke, VI- Students and teachers of the Jost Van Dyke Primary School squeezed into one of the classrooms this morning April 24, 2013 for a simple but significant presentation ceremony- a donation of three computers by Caribbean Insurers Limited.

The donation of the computers was significant for the school as there were no working computers in its Information Technology department.

Director at Caribbean Insurers Limited Jacqueline Malone noted that she works in a competitive world of insurance and that insurance is really protection for the future. "The children of this Territory are our future and so we at Caribbean Insurers Limited are pleased to make this investment in our future.

Ms Malone also said that she hoped each computer will become more than just a machine to play games on but that it will become the vessels for learning, for imagination and to further education for each student. "There are lots of children in the world who go without basic water and food and so computers would be a luxury for them. Today you not only get one computer but three computers to add to your education experience."

She told the students to enjoy their blessing of the computers but to also take care of their blessing.

Also making the trip to Jost Van Dyke for the presentation was Underwriting Supervisor of Caribbean Insurers Limited, Ms Ruth Phillips.

According to the Principal of Jost Van Dyke Primary, Ms Marva Martin, the school was without working computers and such the donation was very welcomed. She noted that the internet service at the school has been fluctuating but nevertheless, students would be having access to the new systems by today.

Expressing thanks on behalf of the students and teachers was Vanesha Questelles, who displayed much leadership skills and initiative by chairing the assembly prior to the presentation. Questelles said the computers would be of much use to the school.

The three reconditioned computers are of the Dell brand and include software such as Microsoft Office 2002/2003; Microsoft Encarta, and Microsoft Bookshelf.

The students seemed particularly excited about the donation especially since they were without access to working computers at the school for some time. This was clear in their loud and synchronised “thank you” to Caribbean Insurers Limited.

The Jost Van Dyke Primary School has an enrolment of 53 students.

I agree "Chris". While not being ungrateful, why do they not have flat screen monitors?

IT is time that "upgrades" actually mean that: upgrading to modern technology, not moving backwards!
