Caribbean Airlines to cut VI route effective January 2026
The airlines broke the news of the suspended routes in a media release on December 2, 2025.
The routes suspended will be to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Tortola, effective January 10, 2026, in addition to the suspension of CAL’s Barbados base of operations at the Grantley Adams International Airport in February 2026.
Route performance played a role in decision
The move is part of an “ongoing Network Optimisation Programme”, CAL said, adding that elements of its regional operations will be adjusted to “enhance schedule reliability, maintain competitiveness and ensure long-term sustainability.
This is the fourth route CAL’s management has either cut or suspended.
The airlines discontinued services connecting Jamaica through Kingston and Montego Bay with Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 2, 2025.
The airline added the VI to its network just over a year ago, on October 14, 2024, via the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport. CAL began operations with four flights weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, promising 540 seats in and out of Tortola each week.
However, CAL said the routes were suspended “following comprehensive evaluations of route performance and resource deployment”.
While the VI will be losing Caribbean Airlines, it still has Winair, InterCaribbean Airways and Liat 2020, which all connect the Region.
