THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI – Coordinator of the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) John P. Aspinall has confirmed that cargo barge Isabelle 5 ran aground near the shore of Anegada today November 6, 2015. However, he said that everyone was safely rescued.

“It is the Isabelle 5...an Anegada freighter. She was en route from Tortola to Anegada when she reported she was sinking,” said Aspinall when contacted by Virgin Islands News Online.

“She made it to Anegada to the entrance of the harbour where she actually ended up on the bottom there,” he said.

“So she’s sitting on the sea bed but above the water,” he added.

Mr Aspinall confirmed that all of the persons on the barge are safe as they were taken off by Anegada residents.

We will bring you more details as they become available.

Didn't see the Faulkner family on the obeyah membership list. Look again in ya crystal ball fool...it's your face you see. I know the late Kenneth Faulkner worked hard and paid for that barge and paid for one that sank on route from USA. A local man that built boats himself. Build his own dock and gas station. A seaman. Look in your crystal ball fool. Its just you with the obeyah. Jackass

Thank God no lives were lost and they got close enough to shore that boats could get to them quickly. In the midst of tragedy there is always something to be thankful for. One thing of note is that when tragedy strikes, all Anegadian residents show their support.

Do these barges have position indication and depth gages or at least have charts on board?
    • True (06/11/2015, 14:51) Like (18) Dislike (3) Reply
WTF is that to do with anything? The barge was taking in water and headed for shallow water, it didn't hit anything it was flooded due to problems with the engines and bilge pumps. It was supposed to sail last night but due to heavy rain they loaded late or this could of been far far worse, so check yourself before gossiping like a lil girl.

How does that help. Lets say your stuffing box is leaking - will you use the charts to plug the leak? Experienced local captains don't ground boats. And it's obvious from the picture that the boat simply sunk and isn't on the reef.

Experience local captains do ground boats from time to time in the charter industry.

Words of wisdom. The more you VIP ppl continue to blame NDP for everything that is going on, the more everyone gets annoyed and tend to lean towards NDP. Your senseless behaviour and comments just leave a bad taste in the mouths of us voters.
Thank God everyone is safe and in good hands.

Well luckily everyone made it safely to shore.
Maybe it can be refloated or at least remove and float the big diesel tank to shore or to another barge with a crane
