Southern Miss has now won 13 straight exhibition games and is 35-6 in exhibition play overall.

"I thought for the most part we competed and played hard," said Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall. "I thought the last 10 minutes we looked fatigued, but I wanted to stay in our press and keep grinding; just get our system and style of play implemented. But my two biggest concerns, which are lack of size and guarding the dribble in the half court, showed themselves tonight."

Dwayne Davis and Rashard McGill both had 14 points and four rebounds. Jonathan Mill had 12 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Deon Edwin had 11 points and three steals, while Daveon Boardingham and Norville Carey scored 10 points apiece. Carey added six rebounds, Carey had three blocks and Michael Craig pulled down a game-high eight boards.

About his young Virgin Islanders, Tyndall said “I’ve been very impressed with Norville Carey. He's a 6-7 freshman from the Virgin Islands. He's a guy who, to be perfectly honest, would be a year and half away from really contributing. But he's been our leading rebounder in practice so far. He's very active and has some range to block some shots around the goal. He's been the one guy as a freshman that we've been pleasantly surprised with. We really don't have a backup point guard per se but it'll give Deon Edwin, who really hasn't earned a lot of minutes in practice to this point, a chance to play a some minutes and we'll see how he responds."

Southern Miss scored the first eight points of the game, but the Patriots scored seven of the next eight points to pull within 9-7 just 5:18 into the game. But the Golden Eagles went on a 15-4 run over the next 8:37 minutes to take a 26-11 lead. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes, but Southern Miss closed the half on a 9-2 run, capped off by McGill's three-pointer with 41 seconds left to send the Black and Gold into halftime with a 44-18 lead.

St. Catharine's scored the first six points of the second half, forcing Southern Miss head Coach Donnie Tyndall to call a timeout. The Golden Eagles than rattled off seven straight before keeping the Patriots at bay for most of the second half, eventually leading by as many as 37 points.

Southern Miss shot 57.4-percent (31-of-54) while holding SSC to just 34.0-percent (16-of-47). The Golden Eagles held a huge advantage on the glass, more than doubling up the Patriots, 42-to-21. The Black and Gold also had 17 assists, 12 steals and eight blocks.

Omar Skinner led St. Catharine's with 17 points while DeShawn Mitchell and Marquis Lee each scored 10.

Southern Miss will play its final exhibition game before the regular season when it hosts the University of Charleston (W.V.) on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 8:15 P.M.
