ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Caregivers in the Virgin Islands (VI) were celebrated by the Social Development Department on National Caregivers Day on Friday, February 20, 2026.

The day recognised the invaluable contributions of caregivers who serve within the VI’s aged care services.

Caregivers play a vital role in supporting seniors and vulnerable adults, ensuring they receive compassionate, dignified, and high-quality care, according to a press release from the department.

Caregivers’ work isn’t 'unnoticed'

Programme Director for Aged Care, Trisha Smith-Gomes, commended the unwavering commitment and compassion demonstrated by the caregiving team.

She emphasised that caregiving is not merely a profession, but a calling grounded in empathy, service, and humanity.

“Your work does not go unnoticed. The care you provide, the relationships you build, and the moments of reassurance you offer truly matter. You are the foundation of everything we do.”

She thanked the leadership team and the families the caregivers serve for their dedication and compassion shown every day.

“Your commitment strengthens families, enriches lives, and reflects the very best of public service,” Smith-Gomes added.
