Car catches afire with tourists on Anegada

According to this news site’s reliable sources on the Sister Island it was reportedly two couples who are currently tourists on the island. The source said that when the incident occurred they were able to quickly vacate the vehicle and summon help.
“They called Fire and Rescue but guess what? Fire and Rescue don’t have not even one working vehicle on Anegada. They usually have to call on other people to help them with transportation and then the time they have to connect all sorts of hose and contraptions whatever is on fire is bound for doom,” said an Anegada resident.
This news site did confirm with an official of the Fire and Rescue Department that the incident did occur and indeed the two vehicles belonging to the department on Anegada are currently out of service. The Government source who asked not to be named said that in situations of that nature they would seek the assistance of other government departments on Island that have working transportation.
Asked about calling for assistance of the fire department at the airport there he said, “That would have to be in extreme circumstances as they are a totally different management, they are Airport Authority,” he said.
While the car was burnt to the shell and no one was hurt, residents have upped their calls for the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government to pay better attention to essential services on the island. They said that it has been quite some time that the Fire and Rescue has been without a working vehicle.
They also alluded to the situation that could have arisen if persons were trapped in the car, or otherwise injured and had to be rushed to the clinic for treatment.
“We don’t have a doctor over here only one nurse. The upper flat of the clinic has two apartments which in my opinion should be used to house the nurse and if they are to bring a doctor he or she can be housed right there,” said the resident.
It was also conveyed to this news site that the nurse lives a distance away from the clinic and is believed to be paying a rent.
“Now if the Government should see to it that she gets the apartment above the clinic, I don’t know why it is the way it is but they need to structure it better so the staff can be right there since they do have the facilities available. It’s not like if they have to go looking for a building or so, right over the clinic are two big apartments,” said the concerned resident.

Keep blaming NDP while the problems become worst. The rep for that district has been there over 20yrs when things were flush in the BVI. The funny thing is we have people ballikng for petty contracts and assistance while important things like this are ignored. How long the know they need a vehicle but it's only brought out because if this incident? Give it a rest. S..t ain't gonna change til people start caring about the country over themselves.
