CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI - Cultural activities, food and games where were the highlights of the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta 2022 which opened on, August 5, 2022, in Carrot Bay community attracting locals and tourists alike.

Massive crowds gathered to witness one of the highlight events, a tug-of-war featuring single men versus married men in which Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI), H.E. John J. Rankin, CMG was drafted to the single men's team.

Dressed in VI cultural wear and upon hearing the call for team members, Governor Rankin ran to the rope to complete the numbers needed on the single-men's team.

The married men were older, nevertheless, after two tugs, the single men failed to match the power of their experienced opponents.

Mango eating champion undefeated!

Other highlights of the day saw Mr Pamphill Prevost holding on to the title as champion in the mango-eating competition.

This year, he was the lone male in a competition where three women were hoping to take the title. Children and Adults also participated in other games including the lime and spoon race, the bucket race, and a swimming race.

The traditional donkey races were also a part of the usual attractions; however, this year's highlights included a first-time jockey who ended the race in 2nd to last and on foot, after his donkey threw him off and galloped to the finish line alone.

A number of legislators were present at this year's 2022 event, including Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7); Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), and Opposition Member, Hon Carvin Malone (AL).

Great to see the Governor taking part in the local cultural events. Helping things get back on track after the CoI revelations and the Fahie/Maynard unfortunate events! Thank goodness we get some supervision to save the Territory from itself! Well done Governor! Thank you for your hard work.

Fantastic festival day at Carrot Bay. Had all the feel of old time Tortola when people was just community and didn’t judge like all you new school trying to change us to nastiness with your attacks on Rankin, talk of slavery and racial grouping. This event felt REAL because there was LOVE between a community of humans.
