Fratricide—brother killing brother—appears endemic in black communities in the USA. That sad, narrative has visited the shores of the British Virgin Islands. Our paradise is being lost by hatred and feuding between members of a supposedly close-knit community. It has to stop.

OK. The Bible asserts that the love of money is at the root of every evil. That warning is clearly unheeded in the Virgin Islands. The real tragedy is that these islands are a tiny community: in essence a large village.

Every violent death affects everyone else. The need to acquire quick wealth is at the heart of recent gun deaths. What will it take to stop the madness?

Guns cause a vast number of murders in the land. Then, the reality is that countries where gun possession is high such as the USA also have the greatest number of gun murders. Worse still is that it is the historically oppressed black community that suffers the most from gun crimes.

In fact, the murder rate from guns in the USA is exponentially higher than in any other country. Just pay a visit across the channel to the United States Virgin Islands to observe this reality.

Is there a solution? Politicians and community leaders preach of the evil of guns in the community regularly, but their words go unheeded. We all wait in horror for news of the next murder hoping it is not someone in our family.

Young men of the Virgin Islands rest the guns down and settle your differences in a wise manner. You kill your brother or cousin to what avail. You end up in prison for twenty-five years. In essence, your life is at an end. The reality is everyone silently considers you a murderer. Who wants to employ a murderer and ex-convict? That is the outcome of crime. You are on a slippery slope to nowhere.

There are better ways for dealing with business than murder. Leave that illegal business alone that ends in death or prison. Why put your close family at risk and in sorrow? That is why getting a skill is crucial for our youth. A skilled man has no need for crime.

Families and communities who know where these guns are should get them to the police. Warn your children, relatives, and siblings, to give up their weapons. There is no reason why a small community cannot solve its disputes in a civilized fashion.
Take heed, as the next bullet could have your name written on it, even if you are innocent. We are losing our safe paradise, how sad.

The contributing cause(s) of the increasing violent and property crime started decades ago with the decline of the village. The BVI is a small bedroom community, ie, a village. The Village played a key and vital role in maintaining social order within the community. African Proverb: It takes a village to raise a child. Hillary didn’t create it; she just publicized it. It (BVI) was a small community/village with everyone/family being relatively at the same economic level and village members shared limited resources and look out for one another, especially the children. Nevertheless, economic and other social changes, ie, impacting of communication media, ie, radio, television, etc started the fragmentation and collapse of the village. The Village is gone ushering in social and cultural changes. It is no longer a village but a neighborhood where each one no longer take care of each one. The Village is no longer permitted to raise its children. Consequently, the lost of the village is the root cause of the of exponential rise in violent, especially gun crime, and property crimes. Children started out with fisticuffs, rock stones, sticks, etc in resolving disagreements. Today, the gun is the weapon of choice in resolving differences. How did chiren get to this choice? They grow up believing there was no societal social order and there were no consequences for their actions. Moreover, the influence of TV, radio, along with other technological Media, and gun availability glorified the gun use in resolving issues. The solution to the gun issue is not trying to solve the symptoms but the root caused. . Just telling chiren to rest down the guns is not enough; that is like just trying to solve mass murders in the US with thoughts and prayers. Prayer is powerful and God answers prayers. But more is needed. Solving the gun menace in the VI is an active all hands on deck effort, including parents/guardians, churches, schools, NGOs, social organizations, law enforcement, government, political
Leaders, overall community engagement, etc. . Secondly, the BVI does not manufacturer any guns. . So it must work actively to stop the flow of guns coming in through its porous sea border. It must invest in better and more effective border protection, ie,land, sea, air. There must be more active and thorough inspections of air and sea transport operating within the 12 territorial sea and within the 200 mile exclusive economic zone. Moreover, government must launch a public education and outreach program on the total cost of gun violence on the community.

My boy every one is tired of this. We say. government, government, their mental state of mind is just talk, talk, I would say the Governor needs to take full control of this. Get outside help, serious searches needs to be done on boats, yachts, hotels, car rentals ,suspected ragas, suspected homes and we will get things in order.

If one debates an idiot now there two idiots. Give us a break with the screaming all caps. Mummy did you even read the commentary or you just as usual runoff half-cocked? If you had read the commentary, you would or should have read that it was noted the BVI does not manufacture guns, ie, there are no gun factories. Thus, if there are rivers of guns flowing into the territory, are not the guns coming into the territory not imported? Indeed, cocaine is anaother menace to society and like gun are coming through the porous border. Guns and drug trading go together like brick and mortar, bread and cheese, etc. and both must be arrested. Yes, there tens of unsolved murders in the BVI and the RVIPF needs the community’s help in bringing the murderers to justice.

The US is the number one culprit of infesting many countries around the planet with their guns ..and that's a fact. I don't know if you heard about Ronald Reagan and Oliver North with their gun nastiness. That was one example. Our elected leaders need to STOP betraying and letting the people down for the green paper with dead presidents on them. Like someone mentioned search every vessels coming into the territory , search places that is suspect. The value of the dollar is dying and then what are we going to do with it ( it won't even bef used for toilet paper).

There is crusade to accumulate the American dollar. But inspite being the world reserve currency, petrodollar( oil is traded in US dollar), the dollar has no value; it is a fiat currency. It has been a fiat currency since Nixon took the US off the gold standard in 1971. Oil is now the old gold standard. Instead of gold holdings, dollars are held in reserve. However, there is a plan afoot to replace the Dollar as the world reserve currency and spell trouble for American exceptionalism, global influence, etc. The dollar has no value; it is backed by a decree and nothing else. Doubt me check the interest on savings. Banks are flushed with cash and wants less cash but more borrowers. Banks Major instrument is credit card…. Keep making minimum payments for ever baby. let’s remember that Saddam Hussein and Muamar Kadafi both advocated trading oil in a currency other than the dollar. May their souls rest in peace. True, we seem to have forgotten the Iran-Contra scandal during the Regan Administration; it was about weapons. American produced weapons also flow into Mexico. The NRA needs additional markets for gun manufacturers.
