Cadet corps now accepting applications for new recruits
The Corps is open to young people between the ages of 11 to 19 years who want to develop self-discipline, character and leadership skills. Parents who see these essential skills lacking in their children or just want those skills reinforced can be a source of encouragement for their children to join the organisation.
Captain Selwyn Rock, Commandant of the VICC, says that many young people have benefited from personal growth under this more disciplined, regimented environment.
“Our young people want the security of a more discipline environment that, for whatever reasons, is not afforded in their lives. They want to be held accountable and committed to order, self-control, restraint and obedience to authority that is lacking in many environments. This is what the Cadet Corps offers,” Capt. Rock noted.
“The peer counseling is high in the Corps. New recruits benefit from the guidance and skills of those who have been in the Corps for years who now serve as leaders and are passing on the character virtues and the values of the Corps,” he added.
The Cadet Corp is also looking for adult leaders who are interested in investing in the Territory’s young people and their futures, to help with their leadership, supervision and training. Male and females who are interested in being a leader must be 21 years or over and be able to commit at least eight hours a week to the programme. Travel overseas for training and Cadet Camps will be provided.
Interesting persons can go online to the Cadet Corp website at www.vicadets.webstarts.com and download an application.
