ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The first phase of the Virgin Islands (VI) brand evolution has commenced.

This is being undertaken by the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission (BVITB&FC).

“The first phase begins with listening,” the tourist board said in a statement on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, adding, “The initial Territory-wide listening tour for the project was held from 22-27 March. Stewart Colovin of MMGY Global met with staff, partners, and tourism stakeholders to gather valuable insights on what makes the BVI unique.”

These conversations help to ensure the voices, perspectives, and experiences of the community are reflected in the brand being built.

New storytelling platforms

The BVITB&FC added that by placing the community at the centre of the process, new authentic, inclusive storytelling platforms that align with the future of the VI’s tourism industry are being created.

Colovin will return later this month to continue stakeholder engagements and deepen these important conversations, the statement revealed.

Could the new brand drop making "BRITISH" the biggest word in the name of the territory? That's a bit cringy currently.

If we are bringing tourists here please please please fix the roads and cut the bush. The place looks disgusting to me as a local. I cannot imagine what it looks like to a tourist.

In the 1970's these islands captured visitors with the catchline "Yes. we're different". Sadly, in recent times we have become intent on being the same as everywhere else. May I suggest that we revert back to the recipe that worked so well in the past.

My book "Virgin Island Sketches" gives you all the insights you need.

Mr Burnett's book is excellent and captures the culture and freshness and history of the BVIs. recently, All I have been seeing is keeping up with the Joneses with more cruise ships, big houses that disrespect history and Island architectural flavor, more paved roads that keep heat islands and rain run-off... I remember when Cane Garden Bay was almost religious with its purity of nature and very few bars and cafe- maybe 2 at the time before one mysteriously burned down in the 70s. Now, with beach chairs clogging the straight stroll on the beaches and even the new hotel dominating the shoreline, you are losing your identity. Also, please preserve the history of main st and counting house and other landmarks. Tourists don't like to be told what to do and see what is planned for them. They want to discover by themselves in peace and quiet and authenticity. Not Miami or San Juan or even Dubai...
