BVITB introduces 'welcome party' to VG Easter Festival
The welcome ushered in one of the signature activities of the Easter festivities, the Virgin Gorda Food Fair. This activity was deemed as better than that of last year especially in the area of sales.
However, it is claimed that there were less food stalls this year when compared to 2012. Director of the BVI Tourist Board Sharon Flax-Mars said, "I think they got off to a late start but the crowds have been very nice, I am getting here a bit late but the vendors have indicated that they have been having nice sales."
Patron to the event Mr Cristibal Neich, a tourist, said while he was expecting the food fair to be larger in terms of variety, "I had my fill of the variety that is here, really good foods and like."
Another tourist, Mel Isha Salem, said that she was encouraged to visit the food fair by the welcoming party. "Hey this was superb, I love the sea food, great, great."
One vendor said she feels some more effort should be put into organizing the food fair. Declining to give her name on record, she said that the committee should have a strategy to subsidise stall holders.
Meanwhile, the welcoming party served the purpose of providing information on the availability of taxi services and fares, hotel and activity schedules for both the Fisherman's Jamboree and the Food Fair as well as the other activities of the festival.
At the end of day one of the fishing competition, St. Lucia is said to be in the lead and there have been large catches so far.
