PORT PURCELL, Tortola, VI- The BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) has advised all stakeholders that every effort should be made to expedite the collection of cargo during the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

The hurricane season began on June 1, 2026, and, in a statement on June 19, 2026, the BVIPA said efforts should be made to expedite the processing and submission of all required documentation for cargo clearance.

According to the BVIPA, timely completion of documentation will: facilitate the swift clearance and collection of cargo; help minimise potential disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions; and improve overall port efficiency during this critical period.

High occupancy levels @ cargo storage sites

The statement also indicated high occupancy levels at cargo storage facilities, which may lead to delays in cargo retrieval if documentation is not processed promptly.

In addition, external system-related delays are impacting the timely issuance of required documentation, contributing to congestion.

Stakeholders are therefore strongly encouraged to: prioritise the early submission of all required documents; ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete; and make arrangements for prompt cargo collection upon arrival.

“The BVIPA remains committed to working with all partners to maintain efficient port operations and minimise disruptions throughout the hurricane season,” the statement concluded.
