ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), Akeem R. Pickering, stated that the authority's 35th anniversary is to honour the past, celebrate the present, and build a stronger future.

Established as a statutory body under the BVI Ports Authority Act, the BVIPA is marking 35 years since its gazetting on October 31, 1990, with official operations beginning in January 1991.

“This milestone is a chance to celebrate everyone who has been a part of our story, from our dedicated team members to the people of the BVI and our valued partners here and abroad. It is also an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported us along the way."

Pickering said the BVIPA is preparing for several improvements across its facilities in the future.

"These developments will enhance the customer experience, modernise our facilities and strengthen our service to the Territory. This anniversary is about honouring the past, celebrating the current, building a stronger future and embracing the opportunities ahead.” Pickering stated.

According to a press statement, over the years, the BVIPA has become a cornerstone of the Territory’s economy by managing the cruise, cargo, and ferry ports that facilitate tourism, trade, and inter-island connectivity.

The authority has established strong partnerships with local, regional, and international stakeholders, which have significantly enhanced its global maritime profile.

The 35th anniversary is being observed under the theme, 'Our Journey. Our Success. Transforming the Future Together', which encapsulates the BVIPA's legacy of service and its ongoing commitment to innovation and progress.

The year-long celebration will run from October 31, 2025, to September 2026 and will feature a calendar of activities that highlight the contributions of the Authority’s people, partners, and community spirit.
