BVIPA announces extended hours & holiday closure

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The public is advised that the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) will be extending clearance hours to accommodate the upcoming Emancipation Festival holiday closure.

The extended clearance hours are Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. His Majesty’s Customs will also be open from 9:00 AM to 2:30 P.M. to facilitate cargo clearance, a press release from the BVIPA on Monday, July 21, 2025. 

The BVIPA offices and warehouses will be closed from Monday, August 4, to Wednesday, August 5, 2025, in observance of the Emancipation Festival holidays. 

The offices and warehouses will resume normal business hours on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

The Cargo Ports at Port Purcell, Tortola and St. Thomas Bay, Virgin Gorda will also be closed on Monday, August 4, 2025. 

“This is in accordance with the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority Regulations, 1995, 143 (3), “Every harbour shall normally be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Festival Monday and Christmas Day,” the press release added. 

Cargo vessels will continue to be facilitated on August 5 and 6, 2025.

Collect cargo within allotted timeframe

Meanwhile, the BVIPA is also advising the public to collect any cargo they may have at the port facilities within the allotted five working day period. 

“The prompt collection of cargo helps the BVI Ports keep the BVI moving. During the Atlantic Hurricane Season, it is important that cargo be collected quickly due to potential inclement weather,” the press release added.
