ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Executive Director of the British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee (BVIOC) has been left with no other choice but to postpone the Sports Administration Course that was scheduled for this weekend due to only six out of 15 member Federations registering.

The revised schedule for the 1st session will now start Friday November 4, 2011 with the opening ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday November 5 and 6, 2011 respectively at 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.

The second session will conclude on Saturday and Sunday December 3 and 4, 2011 at 9 a.m. each day until 4 p.m.

On behalf of the BVIOC, Cleave Farrington, Executive Director proffered his apologies to those who had taken the time to register as requested, “Please accept our apologies for the late notice, but we only received nine persons from six member Federations out of a total of 15 member federations.”

Twelve persons were the minimum to make the course go ahead as originally planned.

Farrington added, “It is our (the BVIOC) hope that the other member federations that have not responded will do so immediately.”

The course will be of great benefit to anybody who takes the improvement of their sport seriously. It covers all the aspects of planning and developing a sport so that it is well placed to meet the demands of the modern world and gives attendees a new perspective on how to ensure their sport is at the forefront of modern techniques to ensure a smooth transition from recreational activity to a “professional” sport.

The topics included in the course are the Olympic background, Values and Issues, Management Skills, Organizing a Sport Trip/Major Sport Event, Olympic Solidarity, Managing the Environment, Management of activities, Developing Elite Athletes, Financial Planning & Accountability, Problem Solving and Talent ID and Development, just to name a few.

Originally, the BVIOC invited each member Federation to submit two representatives and asked that the persons selected were people “involved in the decision making process, someone who has input and most importantly can attend all sessions.”

Maybe the BVIOC will now have to extend the invitation to those sports that whilst outside the BVIOC, are more dedicated to improving themselves and who are actually interested in true development of their sport.
