BVIOC congratulates VI Archery Team for 12-medal haul in Jamaica

- VI archers won 3 gold, 4 silver & 5 bronze medals

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) has applauded the accomplishments of the Virgin Islands Archery Team, which recently returned with 12 medals from the WAAm Caribbean Development Championship 2024 held September 18 -22, 2024, in Kingston, Jamaica.

The medal haul included 3 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals.

“Congratulations to all. The BVIOC is proud to have supported the attendance of the team,” the BVIOC stated in a social media post on September 27, 2024.

Medal winners

National Archery in the Schools (NASP) Champion Kellyann Tillack of Ciboney School of Excellence won gold in the Recurve Beginner Under 15/18 Individual category, silver in the Women’s Doubles, and bronze in the Mixed Team event. Tillack also won the gold in the Caribbean Developmental League.

2023 Regional Junior Ambassador of Tourism Naomi A. Onwufuju won gold in the Compound Developmental Under 18/Senior Women Combined category, with Javlyn Frett winning silver and Keyara Smith winning bronze.

Keandre Matthew won a bronze in the Individual event of the rhetorical Recurve Beginner Under 15/18 category, a silver in the Mixed Team event, and bronze in the Doubles.

Kasadiya Baird won silver and bronze medals in the Compound Beginner Under 15 category.

The team included Naomi A. Onwufuju, Kasadiyah Baird, Keyara Smith, David Persaud, Keandre Matthew, Kellyann Tillack and Javlyn Frett. The coaches were Patrick Smith and Ritseeniyah Georges.

VI archer Winnette Lawrence attended as a competition Judge.

Participating countries

Participating countries included Jamaica, The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, the US Virgin Islands (USVI) and the United States (USA).

The VI maintains the CDC record for Compound Women’s Qualification and Eliminations.

    Big up coach Rick Smith. I know you don't like the dpotlight, but good job. I hope the government see the job you doing with so little support. It's best you look to the private sector for corporate sponsorship

    Congrats to all. But, to be clear, Ms Tillaks success at the CDC games had nothing, AND I MEAN NOTHING, to do with bring a NASP Champion. It's 2 different disciplines, 2 different beasts. Her success was a result of her hard work and dedication to the recurve discipline.being a champion in one dies not, in no way, no how, in no shape or form, garuntee success in the other

    That is all.

    NASP is not affiliated with World Archery, nor is it a grassroots program. The Virgin Islands Archery Association will be developing an Olympic Archery program, to be implemented territory wide.
