TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- Members of the East End/Long Look community are being encouraged to take advantage of free HIV testing being done on Friday, December 12, 2025.

The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) team will be at the Trellis Bay Market conducting the testing and other wellness checks.

“Your health, our commitment. Protect your health, know your status,” the BVIHSA said in a social media post promoting the screening.

Counselling and condom demonstration will also be available, as well as other health screenings to include blood sugar and pressure checks.

Better to be safe than sorry- Hon Wheatley

“It is so important that you know your sexual status, you don’t want to have something and spread it,” Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), told our newsroom today, December 11, 2025, adding, “It’s better to be safe than sorry.”

The Minister said knowing one’s status can never be overemphasised.

“I want to encourage persons to come out tomorrow, do your screening. Early detection saves lives; in this case, this life could be your own, so come out tomorrow and get your screening done.”

This is a good thing. Go and get yourselves tested. There are people walking around HIV POSITIVE.

@I think it's known as facts that they put HIV into the COVID 19 vaccine just like in the 80's

You are talking out of your snout. I would agree that HIV is a man made disease, however, HIV was not put into the COVID vaccine.

With a comment like that, I wonder who tied your shoes today? Clearly you do not have the mental capacity to do so

You are welcome. Thank you, BVIHSA. But why only mention of Long Look people alone when hiv is a B.V.I threat to all, and why Trellis Bay, and not from Nicker Island to Josh Van Dyke for the remain of this year, 2025?

In addition, why is our Premier pretending to be so concerned about Long Look people on this topic issue, yet promotes vulgar sex style entertainment regularly by so-call entertainment performers, and have knowledge of unhealthy lifestyle in the intire B.V.I as are worldwide, among so-called Christians, and political leaders too.?

I owe nobody nothing, but love, neither do anyone owes me anything, but love. But all who takes (rob) others, and me are also robbing themselves though they may know not how.

The focus is not only LONG LOOK POPULATION ONLY. IT IS FOR EVERYONE THAT LIVES IN THE BVI. I disagree with your comment.

Take better care of yourselves and your health. There are so many people walking around infected with the AIDS virus but chose to stay silent. Hope y’all know that if you are a carrier of the HIV virus and you infect someone that is a crime.

So it must be close to campaigning season. What is the status of STDs in the BVI? What do our numbers look like??We dont know the actual status of the health services in the country. What are the clinics being used for? When is dental surgery going to be back up and running? And dont get me started about the lack of basic resources at the hospital. When these HIV tests come back and some are positive, what is the plan for after care, medical and psychological?? Is the government going to do more public health outreach on other diseases? Cancer is eating us alive. Many of us walking around with big a$$ guts full of tumors and fat! Health service has not done anything in a while for anybody. Vincent stop playing with us. Do you think a few HIV tests can fix it? Come back to us when you serious.

When females are pregnant in the BVI and they go for their pre natal check up is a HIV test taken just in the event the mother is a carrier or the father of the unborn child

If you have the HIV virus it is not a death sentence. If properly treated one can live with the virus. What is bad is a person knowingly know they have the virus and go around infecting others. Just go and have yourselves tested. Your information will be strictly confidential.

HIA/ AiDS is still around and can be deadly. If you don’t know your status get tested. The best way to avoid getting infected is abstinence. Nonetheless, sexual activity is natural. As such, practice monogamy to minimize the possibility of getting infected. In a small bedroom community where many have multiple sexual partners the possibility of getting infected is high . Consequently, protect yourselves, ie, wear condoms. Don’t play Russian roulette in regards to not getting infected. The risk is not worth it. If you know you are positive, act responsibly by protecting others, change your behavior by being considerate for others, etc. Get tested.
