WEST END, Tortola, VI — The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) and the Water and Sewerage Department (WSD) will begin operating under one umbrella as the Virgin Islands Energy and Water Corporation (VIEWCo) from December 1, 2026, Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), has announced.

While addressing residents at the inaugural BVIEC Beyond the Bill — District 1 community meeting, held at the West End Community Centre on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Hon Rymer said legislation merging BVIEC and the Water and Sewerage Department was passed by the House of Assembly and assented to by Governor Daniel Pruce, and that the new arrangement is now coming into force.

“On December 1, the transition begins,” Hon Rymer said. “By that time, VIEWCo will be in force, and it will be the utility for water and energy under one umbrella.”

VIEWCo will be responsible for delivering electricity, water, and sewerage services throughout the Virgin Islands.

One utility, separate operations

Although customers will deal with one utility, Hon Rymer explained that the energy and water functions will continue to operate as separate business units within the corporation.

He said VIEWCo will be headed by a Chief Executive Officer, while the Board will continue to provide corporate oversight. Water and energy will each have a director, with an overarching manager responsible for both entities.

Customers are expected to benefit from more convenient service, including the ability to pay both electricity and water bills in one place. The Minister said the merger is intended to improve efficiency, make better use of resources across both utilities, and create a more responsive organisation.

New identity coming

Honourable Rymer also revealed that VIEWCo is expected to unveil a new logo and corporate identity in the coming days.

“I think that is coming in, I mean, next week or so,” he said, describing the development as the “genesis” of Virgin Islands Energy and Water. The Government had earlier launched a territory-wide competition for the corporation’s official logo, slogan, and mascot.

Staff transition protected

The Minister sought to reassure water and sewerage employees that their pay will not be disrupted during the transition.

He said the central government will continue paying Water and Sewerage staff after December 1 while the corporation establishes its bank accounts and completes the administrative transition.

“We do not want December, when staff would be wondering how they’ll be here and having that challenge,” Hon. Rymer said.
