LONG BUSH, Tortola, VI- Customers who have not yet signed up to the BVI Electricity Corporation’s (BVIEC) online portal were unable to pay their electricity bill today, Monday, November 20, 2023, due to the office in Long Bush being closed.

BVIEC had advised the public on November 19, 2023, that its Long Bush office would be open from 10:00 AM today, Monday, November 20, 2023; however, it sent an advisory today stating that the office would be closed all day.

BVIEC did not give the reason for the closure.

One elderly customer who turned up at the Long Bush office to pay her electricity bill around 1:00 PM today was told by the security personnel that BVIEC was hoping to resolve the issue but it “had gotten worse” and had no alternative but to close the office for the entire day.

Customers were asked to use the online portal for payment of bills.

    Thanks for the late notice.

What arrangements have been made to accommodate the elderly and persons who do not hav access to a computer or may not have a debit or credit card? Not everyone have knowledge about the portal and some persons may not know someone who can help them. Eg. the elderly lady that came to pay her bill. Just saying you don’t know when the issue will be resolved is not good enough. I for one don’t like sitting in the dark and I know others who feel the same. Please resolve this issue quickly especially for our elderly.
