POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI- The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has disclosed that a complete shutdown of all engines at Henry Wilfred Smith Power Station in Pockwood Pond resulted in a territory-wide power outage, with the exception of Anegada, this morning, Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Initial investigations, according to BVIEC, have revealed a malfunction; however, investigations are "continuing to determine the full cause" of the shutdown.

"Our teams are actively working to restore power as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience and understanding," BVIEC stated.

Our News Centre can confirm that at the time of publication, power had been restored to several areas.

The BVI as well as the entire caribbean is overly abundant in solat energy. These outrages islands wide outages for severals hours to a.day should not even be allowed to happen.

Why can’t VG have their own power plant? Stuff like this has been going on since I was a kid & doesn’t seem like it’s getting any better. I know that with all the revenue coming from up there they can support their own electricity supply. Dependent on those cronies in Tortola they’ll always be second fiddle.

The cost to build a new power plant in VG would probably be prohibitive..... every BVIEC customer's monthly bill would skyrocket to cover the cost!
