BVICA hosts Cricket West Indies Youth Coaching Training on Tortola

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Cricket Association (BVICA), in collaboration with Cricket West Indies (CWT), successfully hosted the practical component of a Youth Coaching Training programme on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground on Tortola.

This follows the theory segment, which was conducted virtually via Zoom, allowing participants to benefit from both classroom-style and hands-on instruction. The initiative brought together coaches from both the Virgin Islands (VI) and the US Virgin Islands (USVI), marking a significant step in strengthening grassroots cricket development across the region.

The training was facilitated by Kesh Ramphal, CWI Project Officer and High Performance Analysis, and Brendon Ramlal, CWI Project Officer, who provided expert instruction, introducing modern coaching techniques and player development strategies aimed at equipping participants to guide the next generation of cricketers.

Participants

Participants from the USVI included: Bernard Douglas, Bonnel Andrew, Clifford Walwyn, and Rudolph Chapman.

Participants from the VI included: Richard Francis, Wayne Archer, Wayne Richards, Allison Scatliffe, Javon Carty, Andrew Sampson, Brendon Carey, James Rampershad, Alvin Bolton, and Reno Mittelholzer.

'Milestone for cricket development' in VI

In a press release, the President of the BVICA, Mr Richard Francis, emphasised the importance of the initiative:

"This training is a milestone for cricket development in the Virgin Islands. By investing in our coaches, we are investing in the future of our young players. We are grateful to Cricket West Indies for bringing this programme to Tortola and for their continued commitment to the growth of cricket at the grassroots level. The knowledge shared today will make a lasting impact as we work together to nurture and inspire the next generation of cricketers."

The BVICA said the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground once again proved to be a vital venue for advancing sports development in the territory, providing the perfect setting for this landmark training session.

The BVI Cricket Association extended its appreciation to Cricket West Indies for their support and said it is looking forward to further collaboration in shaping the future of cricket in the Virgin Islands.
