BVI Red Cross partners with American Red Cross to deliver First Aid training

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Red Cross is investing in strengthening its training capacity by certifying additional First Aid Instructors in partnership with the American Red Cross.

A three-day workshop, held from January 19-21, 2026, saw the participation of Trishawna Lawrence and Aiesha Roberts from the BVI Red Cross, along with Jacob Adolphus from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM). They were trained and certified as First Aid Instructors under the guidance of Joanna Coiselyn Pierre, a trainer certified by the American Red Cross and the Dominican Red Cross.

Training coincides with BVI Red Cross' 70th anniversary

This training is part of the activities commemorating the BVI Red Cross's 70th anniversary celebrations.

According to a Facebook post by the BVI Red Cross, “Expanding the pool of certified instructors will allow the BVI Red Cross to significantly increase the number of people trained in life-saving skills across the territory. This directly supports the organisation’s mission to help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises and emergencies.”

BVI Red Cross emphasised the importance of this training, noting its long-term impact on both the organisation and the wider community. Building local capacity is essential for strengthening resilience and saving lives.

Nine certified trainers

BVI Red Cross now has nine certified trainers who are able to deliver training throughout the territory. The organisation is encouraging individuals and companies interested in becoming certified in First Aid to register.

BVI Red Cross is an overseas branch of the British Red Cross, which is part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the world’s largest humanitarian organisation.
