PASEA ESTATE, Tortola, VI- The BVI Financial Services Commission (the Commission or BVIFSC) recently embarked on a mission to engage its local and international stakeholders in face-to-face dialogue regarding the [British] Virgin Islands (VI) evolving regulatory regime, legislative landscape, and other trending market issues.

The campaign commenced with the hosting of a Meet the Regulator Forum on October 3, 2023, in Tortola, VI, and continued with a week-long visit to Hong Kong from October 9-13, 2023, marking over six years since Commission officials had been able to engage clients in the Region on a face-to-face basis.

VI delegation

The Hong Kong delegation was led by Managing Director and CEO Mr Kenneth Baker and also consisted of the Director of Registry of Corporate Affairs - Mrs Myrna Herbert, and Director of Policy Development and External Relations - Mr Cherno Jallow, KC. They were joined on the ground in Hong Kong by Director/Asia Representative - Mr Shane Baptiste.

According to a press release from BVIFSC on December 19, 2023, during the Hong Kong visit, the delegation met with key industry executives, institutions, advocates and users of VI financial services products operating in the Asia Pacific region.

Meet-and-Greet Cocktail Reception

The week culminated with an exclusive networking event, a Meet-and-Greet Cocktail Reception hosted by the Commission. The Cocktail was attended by almost 100 industry-adjacent personnel, each of whom descended upon the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel & Resort on October 10, 2023, for the event.

On his return to the VI, Mr Baker expressed: "The Asia Pacific region holds great significance for the VI financial services, and this recognised value dates back decades. This trip was a gesture that my team and I hope will solidify in the minds of our stakeholders, both our commitment to the region and our eagerness for continued dialogue and the building of mutually beneficial connections.

“I cannot overstate what a pleasure it was for us to be able to attend to our stakeholders personally.”

Mr Baker noted that he intended to root for more frequent visits to the Region, citing the importance of continuing to strengthen the partnership between the Commission and the industry players.

I guess Baker isn't letting you walk over him so you got issues. Whoever you are, know that you are way out of his lane. Stay in your lane, grade yourself and see how alive or dead you are. hate all you want and see how your own life improve or worsen.

What a waste of tax payers money, what happened to the missionary that went to guyana to beg for land or trade wild Tamarind for vegetables,I hate to see taxpayers money especially mine goes to waste, bvi is a place where people would getaway with murder, the reason why DA was sent back to guyana its because he refused to bribe the judiciary, everyone knew he is cheap, but this government paying for contracts without doing a feasible study on what the actual project would cost, look at the high school, 3 new building and the children have to walk in dirt to enter the building,it's like you buy a sink or toilet but no water to water...that's how these people in government think.

It's not taxpayer money. FSC is one of the few agencies that doesn't need to take money from government.

For a country which financial budget primarily relies on the revenues from financial services, I find the comments in opposition to the trip, to the gesture, and to the man in charge to be grossly asinine. The ignorance is unreal. All the salaries to public servants, the monies wasted by the government on trips that produce nil, the money to fix the roads, subsidize electricity costs, etc. ,,these monies come from financial services for the most part. There should be much more support for these initiatives, the benefits of which we have been seeing for years and will continue to see for years to come. Shameful country. Shameful.

@unreal, There is no perfect human being or organization. There are good and bad attributes in every human being or organization. BVIFSC is not too 'perfect' or strong to be criticized. Iron sharpens iron, like other statutory boards this organization may have flaws it may need to fix.
