BOGOTA, Colombia- The BVI Chamber of Commerce, working alongside the Virgin Islands Trade Department, has announced significant early progress following its recent strategic mission to Colombia focused on healthcare partnerships, trade expansion, sustainability, and investment opportunities.

The mission was led by Sinclair Flemming together with Leroy James and included members of the Virgin Islands business community across multiple sectors.

One of the most impactful outcomes of the mission has already been realised within the healthcare sector.

Through direct meetings with ProColombia and leading Colombian healthcare representatives, the delegation successfully connected relevant healthcare stakeholders and communication channels directly to interests connected with the Territory’s National Health Insurance framework and healthcare leadership.

As a result, discussions are already actively progressing regarding:
● expanded healthcare facility access for Virgin Islands patients,
● additional treatment locations throughout Colombia,
● specialty-based facility rankings,
● and enhanced coordination for patient movement and support services.

The engagement is expected to provide the Virgin Islands with broader visibility into:
● internationally accredited hospitals,
● cardiology and oncology specialists,
● rehabilitation and diagnostic services,
● medical tourism infrastructure,
● and healthcare institutions with established international patient programs.

Importantly, the discussions have already opened pathways toward expanded concierge-style support services for patients and accompanying family members, including:
● airport coordination,
● transportation assistance,
● bilingual support services,
● accommodation guidance,
● and patient navigation throughout the treatment process.

The Colombian healthcare representatives also committed to assisting with structured profiling and ranking of facilities by specialty and capability, allowing Virgin Islands healthcare stakeholders to better understand:
● which institutions are strongest in particular medical disciplines,
● what certifications they hold,
● what international experience they possess,
● and which facilities are best suited for varying patient needs.

According to Sinclair Flemming:
“This mission was about creating real outcomes, not just conversations. We wanted to connect the right people directly to the right institutions and begin building a structured healthcare network that gives the Virgin Islands more options, more information, and better support for patients and their families.”

The delegation also held strategic meetings surrounding:
● food security,
● agricultural technology,
● waste management,
● circular economy systems,
● fintech,
● and regional trade diversification.

The mission forms part of broader efforts by the Chamber and government stakeholders to strengthen international partnerships, diversify supply chains, and improve long-term economic resilience for the Virgin Islands.

Further engagements and follow-up meetings are already underway between Colombian institutions and Virgin Islands stakeholders.
