ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It is with profound sadness that the British Virgin Islands Chamber of Commerce (BVICOC) learned of the tragic passing of Mr Kai de Castro.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and membership, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, employees, business partners, and everyone whose lives he touched.

Kai was a respected entrepreneur, businessman, and community leader whose contributions to the Virgin Islands will leave a lasting legacy. Through businesses including Main Street Restaurant, de Castro Marking, Sakal Building, and several other ventures, he created opportunities, supported families, and played an important role in strengthening our local economy.

His passing is a tremendous loss not only for those who knew and loved him personally, but for the entire business community of the British Virgin Islands. The senseless act of gun violence that claimed his life has left our community in shock and disbelief.

Violence of this nature affects us all. It robs families of loved ones, businesses of visionary leaders, employees of mentors, and our Territory of individuals committed to its growth and prosperity. Today, we mourn together as one business community.

During this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with the de Castro family and all those grieving this heartbreaking loss. We pray that they find strength, comfort, and peace in the love and support of the Virgin Islands community.

We respectfully ask the people of the Virgin Islands to keep the de Castro family, his friends, employees, business partners, and everyone affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

May Kai’s legacy continue to live on through the businesses he built, the people he inspired, and the positive impact he made on our Territory. Let us also honor his memory by standing together, rejecting violence, and continuing to work toward a safer, stronger, and more united British Virgin Islands.

May he rest in eternal peace.

So unfortunate. Have anyone noticed the little to none call for gun violence? Anyone notice how not one of those people who was saying Free Teejay hasn’t made any comments? Post condemning gun crime? A pledge for peace?

I am writing this comment with objective point of view and I take nothing away from Kai with my comments. However the title of this article / Letter from BVICOC needs some context.

First, I would like to recognize and express condolence and deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Kai. The fact remains a mother and father have lost a son.

To call his death "Senseless" is far flung. The facts are this young man was killed for a reason. He and many others knew what he may or may not have been into. He himself (if the reports are true) knew whatever he was into yesterday he needed to walk with a bullet proof vest. Young hard working entrepreneur's don't walk around in bullet proof vests. If you associate in certain circles the results are clear. Old people say if you live by the sord you die by the sord.

We need to call a spade a spade and stop ignoring and white washing the facts that these young men are being killed for a reason. What is "Senseless" is the young man that was allegedly shot for a gold chain. That is a sense less murder.

How about we as a society start calling things for what they are. Let's recognize that this young man was into something instead of white washing it. Let's use his legacy to encourage others to walk the rite path and to get out of these sort of activities. It clearly doesn't pay as we continue to loose more and more young men. Work hard for what we want in life.

there are plenty of people right now living a nice life in prison after being convicted for the same alleged activities that some are claiming he was into so yes it is senseless as you don't have to be in the street game to be a casualty just adjacent.

How a whole killing can happen with a high possibility of retaliation at any time or place and so many still have the urge to attend high possible events where they can be a mistakenly targeted YOLO mentality with a don’t care sense is not good common sense.

Until catch who is selling weapons all those idiots and 13 year old who had gun will continue to get them. They can not bring them in by themselves because they are stupid and will be caught. Many criminals selling drugs but who bring them in.
