We are a proud, capable and resilient People but even before we could rebound from August Monday Flood we were slammed by the record breaking winds of Hurricane Irma – Without friend or favour she separated Homes and Businesses from their Roofs, Doors and Windows, disconnected Utilities, uprooted and decapitated Plant life, destroyed our Food Supplies, turned our Harbours into boat Graveyards.

The severity of Irma terrified us into such a level of uncertainty and hopelessness that we plummeted into questionable states of denial… Our Seniors went in severe shock and the survival instinct of our Youth pushed them into becoming mob-mentality looters – None of this is normal to us so we should support each other and never ignore the Seniors nor criminalise the Youth of our traumatised Nation.

We are very much in Crisis Mode but our aim must not be to go backwards to what we had but to move forward to the better that we can be… All help is appreciated – Hand Ups; not Hand Outs – so our sincere thanks to the People of the UK and other Countries who have Offers and Assistance… At the same time, we must help ourselves as much as possible - Never allow anyone to turn us into beggars.

Beware those caught up in Devine Intervention who see our Suffering as the answer to their Prayers for us to be punished – That would be wrong in itself just as it is illogical to think we need imaginary Gods to tell us that it is wrong to treat other Peoples so much less than we would like to be treated… This is no time to be ‘sorry for yourself’ - Now is the time for real thought, real vision and real solutions.

Rather than imposing a mentality of pointing big guns at frightened Persons, Government’s first steps should have been to convene strategy meetings with Businesses and Employers of over 15 Employees -
We are all in this together and any push to drive out Work Permit Holders who are Bank Depositors and possess the ability to help us rebuild our Country simply demonstrates a continuing lack of vision.

The People are Homeless, our Children need Education even as the Rain continues to fall and the Mosquitoes multiply… Look around us - Every day we receive platitudes while the real Threats grow… Do you think we can afford to waste more time and opportunities?

PS: I will continue addressing some of your Questions and Comments on Live BVP Radio Programmes

This situation call for great leadership to bring us back quickly and effeciently. Agree with u that a meeting should be call with businesses to discuss the way forward but there is still time for that.. Then we have plentu of labour and immigration issues..This situation is a real challenge...Leadership will have to be compassionate. Understand. Grntle. Serious and firm

Some of this message is correct and well intentioned but with the looting, we are not talking about a few people taking water from stores- the scumbag criminals stealing TVs and the appliances from grocery stores (even when there was no electricity or internet), they need to be held to account and be seen to be held to account. Their actions are bad enough but worse when we (Belongers and residents side by side) are working to rebuild in BVI and from abroad. They brought shame on our country and on their families and communities. But, importantly now, let’s provide them with training and opportunities as well as making them pay the price for what they have done. First, their identities need to be publicised with an opportunity to apologise and speak of how they propose to make amends.

We need to look at our non-belonged residents too, particularly those who have been invested in BVI for substantial time. We need to recognise what they have done and what they are doing to hold it together with us. This is a fragile time for our economy and we cannot afford any exodus of people or the business they bring.

Let us review and accelerate our large projects and consider riders to contracts that *properly* built roads and accommodation for our most vulnerable must also be provided by those winning the contracts.

non belonger residents - who have been here, for let's say a minimum of 10 years, need to have their status upgraded. they have contributed substantially and are able to contribute again - but deserve/need a status upgrade!

Government need to take control of all the Churches in the BVI and use then as schools until such time that recovery of the Territory is evident. Don't worry about the so-called preachers who might object to this, because they are nothing more than a bunch of hi-class beggers who ponder words for work, and they need to help clean up the place.
