FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas- Virgin Islands sprinter Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite secured bronze in the Men’s 100m at the 2025 NACAC Championships with a time of 10.15 seconds.

The 5th NACAC Senior Championships is being held in Freeport, Bahamas, from August 13 to 17, 2025. 

Brathwaite’s third-place finish yesterday, August 15, 2025, is the VI’s first-ever medal in the Men’s 100m sprint event. 

New World Ranking

With his performance on Friday, Brathwaite moved up 12 spots in the World Ranking to number 42. The top 48 will go to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September. 

Brathwaite was part of the VI’s team at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, making it to the semi-final. He also represented the Territory at the 2024 World Championships in Budapest, but did not make it past the heats. 

The other VI athletes at the NACAC Championships are Djimon Gumbs (shot put and discus), Chantel Malone (long jump), Beyonce Defreitas (100M and 200M),  Joshua Hill (400M),  Deya Erickson (110M hurdles), and Kimberly Smith (long jump). 

Other results 

Gumbs heaved the shot put to a 5th place finish with a 18.87m distance, and also had a 6th place finish in the discus throw, with a distance of 56.44m.

Defreitas ran a non-advancing time in the 100M prelims. Malone had a 4th-place, 6.60m leap in the long jump. Smith, in her debut performance, had a 5.93m jump and an 8th-place finish in the long jump. Erickson placed 9th overall in the 100M hurdles.
