B'More takes Tino's Groovy Crown!

In the groovy segment it was Shilloh coming to the stage first followed by JJ, Epic, Stamma, B’more, Miri and JJ, Makisha, Nalo and Tino to defend his crown.
In the ‘Power’ segment it was again Shilloh first, followed by Ringo Star, Jena, KC, Daddy Pitt, Spice, Tino and Kingman who was the first every VI Soca Monarch King in 2013.
The Soca Monarch competition which had its 2nd go around this year went into the early morning hours today with the announcement of the winners coming after the performance of one of the international artistes, Skinny Banton.
It came as no surprise to patrons to the event that B’More was judged the King of the night for the Groovy segment as from the moment he made his way on to the stage from his props to his performance he was almost flawless, answering the call of every category that he was being judged in. Crowd appeal was off the hook, costume P to the E to the R to the F to the E to the C to the T ‘PERFECT’ and everything else followed in line for him as he performed the song.
The Groovy segment was no doubt a heavily contested one taking the 2013 Monarch to 3rd place as Makisha with her rendition of ‘Show me something that I could work with down there’ claimed the #2 spot.
But Tino did not go down without a fight as he came back hitting harder then he even did in 2013. He converted the stage into a real time traffic road block scene which won him the Crown in the Power segment. Shilloh who was a strong contender this year in both the Groovy and Power segment walked away with the 3rd place prize.
Kingman participated only in the Power segment and like last year his song was one well favoured by the audience as they really enjoyed the discussion of the ‘Fowl Cock and Hen’ story. Everyone had their version of what he meant when he sang ‘You could trouble me hen but don’t touch meh cock’.
But was it enough to rival Tino the Road Block man? To the judges NO! To his Fans Maybe but at the end of the night the judges’ decision was final and he place 2nd.
From Traffic Road Block, to Fowl Cock and Hen story it was to “soaking salt fish and soaking it good.” The night was one that welcomed the stellar performance of Grenada’s popular Skinny Banton. He was followed by Boss and the Showtime Band and Sasso to turn on the sky’s light bringing up the early morning sun of today.
