ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islands musical talent ‘B’More’, born Mackenzie L.K. Baltimore Jr, has just launched a new video for his song ‘Million Miles and it is testimony to who he is as a performer and what he hopes his music will be known for - a representation of the love he has for his territory and its culture.

Baltimore launched the new video at a private screening on Tuesday night May 10, 2016 and it has been getting high commendations on social media ever since.

“The song is called Million Miles and it was [made possible] by one of my producers Christian Santana, called ‘Chacho’. He is really prominent where producing is concerned in the Virgin Islands. I harnessed him with certain stuff and he just made this amazing track and he sent it...the acoustics of the track really hit me. He said this is one track that is going to be big for you so I said ok,” B’More related to Virgin Islands News Online in an exclusive interview on Wednesday May 11, 2016.

The artist said he wrote the song Million Miles about a year ago and recorded it “and we fixed it up really nice man, and we sent it to Kamau A. Georges so he can put his uplifting on it,” he said.

According to B’More, the song stems from what he experienced by being away in college. “I was away from my love in that time and I just said even though we are distances apart we will always have each other’s heart. So it stemmed from that and it came out great.”

Talking about the video shot for Million Miles, B’More said Director Phillip ‘Phil’ Richards Jr from VIslander Media wanted to capture something big and outdo the previous video, Love Again, which had hit Number one and Number two in the region with R&B songs. “But we wanted to do Caribbean infused songs too so with it we captured a Bonnie and Clyde kind of theme...it is a modern day Bonnie and Clyde whereas Bonnie and Clyde rob a bank and Police are trying to catch Clyde but one of the police wanted Clyde to get away from Bonnie but Clyde cannot do that because he has to stick with Bonnie, so they went on a runaway kind of spree,” he said in giving a synopsis of the video.

Virgin Islanders Yadali Thomas-Santos and Khiry Creque are also in the music video 'Million Miles', appearing as police officers on the hunt for B'More (Clyde).

The young artist B'More said the production was shot on Sandy Cay and Nanny Cay. “So huge shout-outs to Sandy Cay and to the people who got us permission to shoot on Nanny Cay,” he said.

B’More said the cast and the crew were really good and he sent out his appreciation to them.

Music is life

He also noted that most of his music ties in to his life. “You need to make relatable music, so that when people hear it they could say yeah that happened to me before.”

“What I really want to do with the music is to show that Caribbean music is on the rise right now and in the Virgin Islands we have a hidden identity about music. I wanted to come up with a fusion of R&B and Caribbean so what I wanted to do is create that identity for myself so people could say ‘Oh I see what he is doing’. Naturally I am an R&B singer but we needed that Caribbean base and that is how everything ties in,” he said.

Asked to define the song by genre, B’More said it was Caribbean Soul - a fusion of reggae, soca and R&B, “and that’s the sound I am going for.”

B’More said this new video marks the start of the team’s progression and promotion for his album due to be released in the fall, though an exact date has not been set as yet. “The name of the album is going to be 24 Square Miles. Why 24 Square Miles? Because of the same thing...the identity. If we get out there with a video like this and they see the album name, they are going to question it, and when they question it I get to talk about 24 Square Miles, which is the Virgin Islands,” he said.

...Love B'More vibe you know. Digging the song too. My comment really about the album name though...maybe 60 square miles might be better, as that 24 square miles only represents Tortola.

The song has potential, but I have to admit that I’m put off by the negative images — the two of them as fugitives from the law, and the senior police officer as a traitor. Considering all that’s going on in the territory right now, I really feel that the lyrics and footage could have been used to create a video based on a more positive story line.

It's true that life isn't all fairy tales, but the Bonnie and Clyde theme has negative connotations for me even Mr. Baltimore explained his take on the story.
