Blazers, East Rockers, Mega Mix & A’s draw first blood in District League Playoffs

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- VG Bayside Blazers, East Rockers 2.0, Mega Mix and A’s have all won their opening game of the best-of-three series in the BVI Basketball Federation (BVIBF) National ‘District’ League Playoffs.

The Playoffs in both the Senior and Junior Divisions got underway at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Jr East Rockers and Z6Ne Bay Youths also won their first playoff games at the weekend.

Blazers stamp authority against Filipinas

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, VG Bayside Blazers, who played the preliminary round unbeaten, overcame Filipinas 92-74.

Jolyon Wilson led the Blazers with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Stephano Paul netted 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Kimron Telemaque and Paul Bridgewater (10 rebounds) had 16 and 14 points respectively also for the Blazers, who are now unbeaten in 10 games.

Louie Poblete top-scored for the Filipinas with 18 points while Delbert Samuel had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

A’s outplay Skillful ballers

In the second playoff game of the Senior Division, A’s outplayed Skillful Ballers for a 94-75 scoreline.

Jevon Demmings had a game-high 26 points, Noel McKelly 16 points while Juan Richards, Shakeem Blackmoore and Asim Beazer scored 14 apiece.

In the Junior Division, Z6ne bay Youths fought off the challenge of 3Ds Big Dogs 90-83.

Kacy Channer (21 points), Kalique Maduro (18) and Alonzo Baptiste (16) were the leading scorers for Z6ne Bay Youths.

Kymal T. Pancho had a game-high 24 points and 15 rebounds and Stephen De Leon netted 22 points and pulled 10 rebounds for Big Dogs.

East Rockers 2.0 destroy Guns

On Sunday, September 12, 2021, Mega Mix, on the back of 22 points from Douron R. Phillip and 20 from Tavon J. Phillip, overpowered Z6ne 68-57.

East Rockers 2.0 destroyed Guns 103-77 in the second playoff game.

Dameon Ottley top-scored for East Rockers 2.0 with 19 points, Drexston Gaton had 15 while Makebo Fahie, Timron Nickie and Leslee J. Smith had 12 each.

The experienced Ray D. Victor led the Guns futile resistance with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

40 points for Vern Frett but Jr East Rockers win

In the Junior Division playoff game, a 40-point performance from Vern Frett (10 rebounds and 9 steals) was not enough to stop Jr East Rockers from winning against Jr Mega Mix. The game ended 86-73.

Zachary Luke led East Rockers with 23 points and 20 rebounds, Deshawn Doyley had 20 points and 17 rebounds while Tcoy Tyson and Ken-Norris Pitt had 19 and 17 points respectively.
