'Big' after J’ouvert wet fete & race to feature ‘Binky vs Scoop’
The event is scheduled to take place at Cool Spot, next to Bang Good and across from Bobby’s Supermarket in Road Town, Tortola.
The feature race will be between two heavyweights...literally.
The Big' Race!
Omari Martin aka 'Binky' will match strides with Kyle J. Ricketts aka 'Scoop' in a 100m race for some serious bragging rights.
Race pundits have assured Usain St Leo Bolt's World Record will not be threatened; however, excitement is guaranteed.
DJ Mac Milli, speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), said other exciting races are also scheduled.
“We are supposed to have other races, probably some celebrity races and races among people in the community,” he added.
The DJ reiterated that the feature race is scheduled for around 9:30 am, right after the J’ouvert on August Monday.
He said food, music, water trucks, and more will be available for patrons who come out to support.

Places like Dario's, Panchie's, Cool Spot, Bang Good and a multitude of car wash operations have been occupying public parking spaces in the heart of Road Town for years, apparently with no permission nor opposition from the politicians, Trade, Town and Country Planning, Police or the City Manager's office. In the meantime, motorists are catching hell finding decent parking within the city, especially when more persons are designating private parking spaces or converting their vacant lots into paid parking zones.
We are dancing around the issue of whether public spaces should continue to be co-opted for the usage of private business owners (are they registered with Trade, Social Security and Inland Revenue anyway?) to the detriment of the wider motoring public. While its all well and good to encourage persons to walk to their destinations if close by, car pool, use public transport or the free inter-city buses (which by the way are being used to transport TOURISTS around town, which was NOT their intended purpose... this is actually taking money from the mouths of taxi operators or persons who may want to provide similar paid shuttle services to nearby local attractions. Tourists have money, and our plan should be to help them to leave some more of it here... but that is another story that we do need to address).
All in all... my big issue isn't with "small" businesses but whether or not these businesses are being regulated, licenced, taxed, located elsewhere than in public parking spaces or obstructing access to through traffic by the greater community. We don't need to look far... it happens in almost every community near the main roadways. And its time we take time to act like we are indeed a well oiled, functional and mindful society where it doesn't feel like the Wild West and everyone does what they want, where they want, how they want in the name of "freedom". That is NOT what the ancestors fought for.

Agreed, parking is absolutely horrendous in Road Town, the capital city. There are obviously more cars every year and still no relief for parking in site.
I give up!
