ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The deadline for submission of bids for the construction of the Immigration Detention Centre has been extended to October 16, 2026. The original submission deadline was October 5, 2026.

According to the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA), the extension provides additional time for the shortlisted contractors to complete and submit their tender packages as the procurement process progresses.

It was in June 2025 that a contract valued at US$370,000.00 was awarded to Trojan Design and Development Ltd for the Design and Construction Management of the facility, following a Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) procurement method.

The Department of Immigration previously stated that the facility would prioritise both security and dignity, ensuring that individuals in custody are treated humanely and that their basic needs are met, with a design that aligns with international standards for humane treatment.

Detainees of the Immigration Department are currently housed at Hotel Castle Maria in McNamara.
