ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two of the three men freed of the charge of murder on November 15, 2022, have briefly commented to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).

Dakheme Cheltenham aka ‘Kemo’, Vicardo Farrell aka ‘Scar’ and Kareem Durrant aka ‘Blacker’ had been charged for the 2016 murder of Devern Stanley aka ‘Snoopy’ were set free of the charges due to want of prosecution.

Justice Thomas Astaphan KC instructed the pool of jurors in the High Court to enter a not guilty verdict for all three accused as he had established that the prosecution provided no evidence, circumstantial or otherwise, that the three men together or individually murdered Stanley.

Durrant; however, remains imprisoned on another matter.

‘Best judge on Tortola’- Farrell

Farrell was in particular grateful to judge Astaphan.

“Finally free after five years of injustice. Best judge in Tortola! Bless up, gone again,” Farrell briefly remarked on exiting the High Court.

Members of the Serious Crime Investigation team on November 4, 2017, arrested and charged Farrell, a resident of Major Bay, for the murder of Stanley.

'All things work together for good'- Cheltenham

Meanwhile, Cheltenham commented: Victory! All things work together for good,” seemingly partly quoting the Bible verse from Romans 8:28, which states “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

The decomposed body of Stanley was found on July 28, 2016, two months after he went missing.

Cheltenham was represented in court by Jason Hamilton, Durrant by Valarie Stevens-Gordon and Farrell by Michael Maduro and Isis Potter.

Prosecuting the case were Principal Crown Counsel Kellee-Gai Smith and Crown Counsel Kristian Johnson.

First off am happy for the defendant’s freedom. Everyone all ways say, let the system do it’s work, and today the system have freed them by innocent verdict.

To the family of the slain, I say even if no closure at this time may you find peace and rest.

To the DDP I say not all things are your fault, but just imagine you guys didn’t even offer evidence or showed the fight to prosecute, based on the judge’s feedback someone should be sent home for this. No value for the people in such outcome, next time put up a fight win or lose!

Once again good job to the defense!

If these guys are not Virgin Islanders, is it possible to say goodbye to them? Asking for a friend. Not because you were not found guilty means you are innocent. We are all at risk. Governor?

Well the real killer/s still have to face JEHOVAH GOD. Nobody escapes Him. Nobody. Rich, poor, old, young will stand before Jesus Christ to give an account.

Someone had to have done it...The police must have had sufficient reasons to accused these 3...Bare in mind that suffecient reasons may not be sufficient enough to prove guilt. This is clearly a failure of the AG's office who had the files for months to peruse and ensure that the required evidence is present and believable....#dontrushtopleasepublic.
