Belle Vue youth ordered to clean jail cells, vehicles @ RT Police Station

When Scatliffe appeared in the Magistrate's Court on December 9, 2013 the Belle Vue resident was ordered by Magistrate Velon John to take up the cleaning duties as a condition of his sentencing.
According to the allegations, Police were on patrol in the Bell Vue area on December 5, 2012 around 8:30 P.M. when they spotted Scatliffe speaking with two men who were seated in a motor vehicle.
He was allegedly seen taking a plastic bag from his pocket which he later dropped. This aroused the officers' suspicion and he was subsequently approached and questioned.
When asked what the item was, he allegedly admitted that it was "weed" and said "Officer, please give me a break". He was then arrested and taken to the Road Town Police Station where he was later charged.
The cannabis reportedly weighed 21.9 grams and carried a street value of $219.
After checking with an officer in the court about the condition of the police station, the Magistrate advised that this would be his punishment.
According to Magistrate John, Scatliffe's sentence was in keeping with the "spirit of the season".
Scatliffe is to report to the Road Town Police Station this week to clean the jail cells as well as the kitchen area and vehicles on the premises. Failure to comply with the sentence will automatically result in three months' imprisonment.

Way to go Magistrate John.
This magistrate must be a gift from God sent to our territory. Finally, there is someone on the bench with common sense and a feel for true justice. Remanding individuals to prison for bailable offenses should be a no no in our territory and I would loved for Mr. John to see that these occurrences become none existing here in the BVI. Way to go justice John......
True justice , finally someone with a consience , someone human , someone with sense , thanks to mr velon john u seems to be someone of integrity , do your work , give bail until the prosecution prove beyond a reasonably doubt , to many nonsense been going on.
