Bekembe George gets 33 months for ganja farm
Police contended that the defendant cultivated over 3,000 plants near his home at Taylor’s Bay in Virgin Gorda when he was arrested in December, 2011.
Magistrate Richards noted the defendant’s lengthy ‘rap sheet’ which indicated that he had several convictions before the court for various offences such as possession of cocaine and gun possession.
He was previously handed a 9 month suspended prison sentence by former Magistrate Valerie Stephens in 2010 which will be added to his latest sentence.
Magistrate Richards commented that the nuisance of drugs was a sore on society and noted that the court found that George played a significant role in the cultivation of the prohibited drug.
The sentences run from his date of first incarceration in January, 2012.

In our present financial climate, the only way for ganja cartels to survive is to legalise ganja, so in that way the proceeds are not from criminal conduct, but rather legal transactions. Same people benefit, same idiots smoking it today, still goes to prison. But this way, you defrauding a government, which amounts to life in prison instead of 33 months.
