‘Be intentionally impactful & share your story’- Ms Rhonda R. Victor-Pinnock
Victor-Pinnock was a guest on the December 1, 2025, airing of Talking Points on ZBVI 780 AM, where she shared her journey towards overcoming domestic violence and becoming an advocate.
As Mrs BVI 2024, she used her platform Domestic Violence and Gender-based Violence’ to bring awareness to this very important but often silent issue in the Virgin Islands (VI).
She continues to be a strong voice in the community, shedding light and bringing hope.
Co-host Damion C. Grange asked her whether she has any concerns or guilt that this may reflect negatively on his persona and could impact her former partner and abuser in any way, now that she has gone public with her story.
“No, no, no…I am a firm believer that everyone should use their story to be impactful. So I’m using my story without shame, without guilt.”
She added that he could share his story as well. “Where did you go wrong? What happened? Share your story…I think that’s his responsibility.”
It had to happen
Though her former partner has never apologised for his actions, she said this had to happen to her for a reason.
“Everything that happens, happens for a reason. It is now my driven purpose.”
She added that while she has other purposes, this one gives her to opportunity to shed light on this issue to let people know domestic and gender-based violence is happening.
“It doesn’t wear a face, it doesn’t wear a name, it doesn’t wear anything, it exists. Many times, we’re going to sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn’t happen to me, and we are afraid to share our stories. No, use your story as your glory, be intentionally impactful and share your story.”
Happy to share my story
Ms Victor-Pinnock also said the response she has received has been good, as she has spoken to several youth groups, various organisations and spiritual denominations.
“Persons have been asking about me, contacting me to speak at different organisations more than once, and it’s such a pleasure doing so to share my story. I love doing it, without shame.”
She added that persons who are in abusive situations have sought her advice as to how to get out of it, and she has given them advice, directing them to various organisations, Non-profit Organisations (NPOs) or government agencies, including the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), where they can turn for assistance.
